I am a registered nurse in a hospital and work 12 hours a day 3 days weekly. The job is very stressful. I work 2 days on and 3 days off. Kids are grown and I would just like to try something a little different. Any suggestions?

I didnt mean to offend anyone who works at Walmart, I just love to shop at that store. Nursing is very stressful. Its very demanding and high stress. We always joke about coming to work to "save lives", and "save the sick" but we really arent joking.

Yes. Stay home, turn on some music and relax. Don't take the 2nd job. You sound like a workaholic...that's why you're stressed.

Working retail is the hardest work for the smallest amount of pay you will ever do. They treat the employees like thieves and Walmart pays some of the lowest rates around.

There are retail establishments that will treat you better and probably pay a bit more. Home Depot and Lowes are two well known for better pay (though not necessarily better management). Costco and Whole Foods Markets pay better than the others (twice what Walmart pays in many areas) AND they treat their employees well. Costco even has benefits for part-timers.

You might enjoy office work, something like receptionist is low pressure and still better money than retail, and if you find it interesting, you can probably move up in office administration.

What other skills do you have? You might sit down with a career counselor and explore your options. Since this isn't your primary source of income, you have the luxury to truly look at your options. There are hundreds of things you could probably do and enjoy.

Good luck.

Well I worked at wal-mart supercenter and it was awful for me. I worked in the donut shop part. The cashiers I talked with didn't like their job any better than me. The pat is awful and the only kind of job that I saw that might be less stress would be moping the floor. Other than that the door greeter has to stand for long periods of time at the same place. What a bummer!

I'd recommend a 2nd job that doesn't have people placing demands on you. Working at Wal-Mart would have that and it's too much like the demands (though not life-or-death) on a nurse.
Try to find a desk job or filing job or something that's routine if you need the money. Also it might be nice to be off your feet in the 2nd job.

Do you really want to go work for Walmart? You should find a 2nd job that you will want to be in. The only way for you to have low stress in a job is when you have fun at your 2nd job. Hope you find a 2nd job that you would like. Good Luck.

I'm sure Wal-Mart would consider you, but while it is very different than your current job - it is a different kind of stress. What about volunteering at a free clinic, of course that isn't different.

Low stress? Selling things on Ebay, it's fun to try and you might make a buck.
