Is the pay good? Is it easy work? Are the hours usually good? What about being independant, is it tough?

I'm in retail, but I'm talking more about a commission-based sales-type job, where you go and talk to people......an account rep. sort of thing. Also, I'm looking for info. on what it's like having that sort of job--I'm somewhat apprehensive about a job without a lot of guaranteed income, that is more dependent on commission.

A number of people applied in house for a job interview but only external applicants were seen.. I asked if I could have reasons why I did not receive an interview in writing. I have been told that they might explain verbally but I want something written because I and some of my colleauges think a detailed criteria was not followed and the policy of our employer (school) is not to allow internal people to progress.

I was pushed out of my last job because of my age. However, I was paid severance pay of 6 weeks; I think this was for my boss to cover himself legally. I have applied for at least 300 jobs and still no job. I was not asked why I was quitting my job, and I did not put the reason in my resignation letter. On my Human Resources form I put the reason as opportunity for learning & advancement. When asked in an interview why I left, I give that reason because in my last conversation with my boss before quitting I reminded him that in my initial interview he said there would be promotion possibilities. He said he did not say that. I don't know what he is saying when he is called as a reference for me. I did a great job which was reflected on my reviews. I have had at least 15 interviews and have applied for at least 250 jobs, but still no job. I am a very fit 62 year old; 118 lbs, in great shape physically and mentally; continually wanting to learn new things. Please help!!!

I'm feeling trapped. My boss has a problem with me and I think the best thing to do would be to change jobs but I've been looking for a while and can't find anything at this level. I'd be willing to take a pay cut but just can't afford to take too much of a cut . I think she'd like to get rid of me but it's not so easy because I've had a very good reputation with her boss and peers. Some of the things she's trying to implement are going to be detrimental to our office and work (and staff) and I've voiced my concerns and because of this she has told me exactly what she thinks of me and it's all very negative. She is a pretty ruthless woman and I see myself being isolated with my reputation rapidly going downhill. As she also has (I think) a good reputation with her peers and her boss I am reluctant to bring my so-called 'negativity' to their attention. Our HR dept also report to her.

I have a second interview at a local bank tomorrow. Before I was asked to come in for the first interview they asked me the MINIMUM salary for me to consider a change in careers. I responded with $35K. I just researched the median salaries for professionals in this industry. My research shows that the median salary ranges from $42-$45K. If I recieve an offer how do I negotiate my salary?
