Do some homework, like buying a couple of books on starting a business on Internet, or even attend some free seminars. Then, pick something unique to sell there, or you can sell some special services. Try some well-tested methods of (free) advertisement if you do not have much money to spend, i.e., SEO (Search engine optimization). If you work hard, it will pay off in a couple of years, or you may even make decent money in 6 months.
Bottom line is, you got to do some homework and try it out.

The success of any business largely depends on what type of product/service you are offering and how hard you are willing to work. If you put in the time and effort, you can be successful. However, if you are looking to sell a product, I would start on eBay or just start your own site. I've never heard of starting a business on MySpace before, so I'm not sure what type of business you mean

Interesting. I think if you have the entrepreneurial bug, then go for it. I started an online t-shirt business a few years ago and it was a blast. It still exists today and still turns a profit every month. Check it out if you want.

We were also one of the first online companies to think of using MySpace as a way to attract customers. It worked VERY well in the beginning, but I am warning you that it is much more difficult to use it, since the site is so saturated with businesses trying to promote their stuff.
Here is a link to our myspace page:

I agree that e-bay would be a better place to go with that type of thing. People aren't likely to go to myspace.com to attempt to BUY things, they would do that sort of thing on e-bay, though.
Don't sink a lot of money into a home-based internet business unless you have a lot of money saved up....it can be a very difficult thing to get started. I'd suggest doing it part-time, more as a source of extra income than your main income, at least until you see whether or not it's going to be successful.
Plan ahead and have a backup plan, just in case. Good luck!

whatever you do, make sure you have a solid business plan. check out all your expenses first and see if they add up to the profit you will be making, also factor in the time involved to start up and the length of time before you actually get a return on the investment. reasearch EVERYTHING!! any time you work for yourself it really is a LOT more work that going to a job and getting paid for it. but its worth not having a boss! good luck!
