because your birthday does not qualify as a national (government) holiday, you're not guaranteed your birthday off. my suggestion is to give your boss other options like-- instead of taking off your exact b-day, ask for the day after. it'll be a good compromise, and may work out in your favor, if it's closer to the weekend.

Sorry Dude, grown-ups don't get their birthday off unless they take a vacation day. Usually the request must be made in writing at least 30 days in advance.

I doubt he will change is mind. But think about it. If your boss or employees don't care about you, what is the point of having that job? Want to know more of a company in which you are your own boss and make your own schedule legally?

unfortunately once you enter the work force no one give a crap about your b-day. youll have to celebrate around work or use a vacation or sick day,
