Raising it will do nothing. By raising the minimum wage you are costing companies more money, which in turn, will cause them to raise their prices. So you will be making more money, but the cost of living will go up. All in all, you are still in the exact same place you started. It will only make it harder for those who lose their jobs or cannot work since everything will cost more, but they will not be making any more money.
I think it is fine where it is. 89% of the companies out their pay more then minimum wage to begin with. I do not have a college degree and I work in the retail industry, now in management. I have worked in this industry for 18 years and I have made more then minimum wage for 16 of those years. If you work hard and do your job to your best abilities, you will always make more then minimum wage...unless they raise it.

Minimum wage is really only for starter jobs and needs to be kept low or employers won't hire new kids to fill the spots. Otherwise they will do away with the job and spread the work among the higher paid employees to do. Remember that if minimum wages go up, so will prices on everything you buy. Someone has to pay for it and it has to come from the money the business makes or they will go out of business. Most business's only make about a 3% profit on every dollar now. Everyone would like to make more money, but that's why we need education and skills, to get a good paying job. JMHO. Good luck!!!!

Tough question. The problem is every time minimum wage goes up the prices everywhere seem to go up too. Also, what happens to the raises earned by employees when minimum wage goes up? I worked at a job starting at minimum wage the last time there was an increase. When the wages increased I was making $1.20/hr. over minimum wage after my raises, but when minimum wage increased I didn't get moved to $1.20/hr. over the new minimum wage so I essentially lost my raises.

The minimum wage should NOT be raised as no one truly benefits from it. Three reasons below:

(1) When companies are forced to pay higher wages, they pass those costs to you and I, the consumer. Even those getting a raise end up paying more for goods and services, negating any gain.

(2) Professionals, those who have received higher education and working in a field earning much better than minimum wage do not have their wages increased when there is a raise to the minimum. Due to (1), this results in a net decline in buying power.

(3) The U.S. is starting to have a hard time competing in a global market where the wages are even less. Raising the min wage would likely result in more jobs leaving the U.S., creating more of a hardship than the existing minimum wage.

So... to answer this question, it comes down to "do you trust in corporations to voluntarily abide by the intent of the minimum wahe by increasing their employees wages while not raising the price of their goods and services to pay for this added expense?" If you do NOT trust corporate America, your answer should be "NO" to raising the minimum wage!

EDIT: If you REALLY want to help our economy, the key is to apply pressure with countries we trade with to raise THEIR wages to help us retain more jobs here in the U.S.

no i think its fine. its hard enough for the employer (boss) to make money. the whole government is corrupted, i think that needs to be fixed first before minimum wage is raised

Sure, but it will raise the cost of doing business. So products will cost more. Then you will want another raise.

Quit crying about it and determine your own income.

Build a business.

I think it should because goverment and civil service positions get yearly raises. And minimum wager earners get left behind.
