I quit because my employer was demoting me and giving my coworker my job, because I was going to be leaving for college in three months, even though she told me before I could keep my position until I left. I wasn't happy with this decision, so I wrote a letter of resignation and told her that I would rather she found someone to take my shift but I would work if she needed me to (someone else took my shift). I didn't give two weeks notice, but I couldn't stand being in the building any longer since I was so upset. Would you have handled this differently?

My job is trying to tell me that because I went to the bathroom they want to take that time away from the 2 hours overtime also they said that I would be considered late because my regular shift started at 11:00am I signed out from my phone ( i work in a call center) to document and reasearch a policy I was working on. I was not signed out for the end of a shift I was working through from 9am-7pm. Can they do this?

I just heard from my supervisor today that she wanted to meet with me first thing tomorrow morning. She also said that HR wanted to speak with me as well.

When I asked what it was about, she gave me a vague reply like,"Well, I'm not really going to be in one the meeting, so we'll just have to see what happens." When I pressed about whether or not I was to return to work after speaking with HR, she said,"Yeah, probably, I mean, I don't know, like I said, I won't be at the meetiong."

My gut instinct tells me that they are going to fire me.

Is this correct, or just me being paranoid?

How do you fix that since now even the lowliest jobs want more experience, and you can't get experiece unless you've been hired in the first place. And I've lost contact with a lot of people so I'm not really in a position to ask for references.

Would it be beneficial to join JAG? Would the extra experience make me more likely to find a job after I was done?

Okay, I applied for a job back in mid-June. I have since had FOUR interviews (3 by phone, one in person) for the job. 3 weeks ago the HR lady told me I was the prime candidate and pretty much led me to believe I'd get the job pending the background check. The background check took a little more than TWO weeks and was just completed yesterday afternoon, but I still haven't had an offer. I emailed the HR lady today to make sure everything was fine w/my background check, and she said it was. So we're going on a 2 month long process now, and still no offer. Is this typical in CORPORATE America? I thought private industry was supposed to be faster than government.

I am an independent contractor and am used to setting and working my own hours, having almost no oversight, being well-paid, but also, have been doing this work for almost 10 years. I could settle in or I could begin again. The new job would be one that would require me to be there whether I felt like it or not, have much, much, much oversight including at least a 12 member board, to a national organization.

The person may ask me why I don't do something else and could tell me I could do something better, etc. Isn't this TOTALLY inappropriate for the work environment?

I work with A LOT of people. I have meetings in and out of my organization. I work with men and women usually 30-65 ( I am 26). My job requires that I have great interpersonal skills, community development, and customer service. I am often “representing” my organization/employer. I am professional with everyone!

My dilemma… for the last three or four weeks a man that works for another agency has been getting too friendly. I have been making sure he keeps his distance. Does not cross the line. However, he has become more and more aggressive. Last week the put his hand on my shoulders and squeezed (not cool). Today he said I “looked REAL nice” and looked me up and down.

I want to keep it cool. It is important that I keep a good working relationship with him, but I do not want to feel uncomfortable any longer and I do not want to make the problem worse…

I am in NY and talking to companies in FL with plans of relocating. One company in particular I am very interested in. I just want to make sure it is worth my while to go down there and interview. I am a recent college grad with a decent job here in NY but would like to move to FL. What kinds of things should I ask them to do differently because I am so far away. I would like to do as much over the phone as possible. Are there any keys to know if it is worth the flight and money to go interview. Any advice would be great.
