Tig stands for "Tungsten : Inert gas"

Basically a small tungsten (alloy) electrode shoots out of a gun and melts in an electric arc, much the way a mig welder works. With tungsten you can weld things like titanium and stainless steel or even aluminum very cleanly.

GTAW is most commonly used to weld thin sections of stainless steel and light metals such as aluminum, magnesium, and copper alloys. The process grants the operator greater control over the weld than competing procedures such as shielded metal arc welding and gas metal arc welding, allowing for stronger, higher quality welds. However, GTAW is comparatively more complex and difficult to master, and furthermore, it is significantly slower than most other welding techniques

a tig welder is a machine that focuses a very intense arc. tig welding is defined as a very focused type of welding. in tig welding you have a torch, with a tungsten electrode in it. you pass either DC+ (torch hot) or DC- (workpiece hot) current through the tungsten to create a welding arc. you add filler as needed to create a strong weld

it's a very expensive welder that welds by heating up the metal on both sides of the joint, and fusing them together with a welding rod. Works kinda like a plasma cutter.

I've heard of a Mig Welder...

Possibly it's just a different form of welding metal together, like an arc welder.

Tig is mostley for welding aluminum.It requires a steady hand.It's alot harder to learn than helearc and mig.
