I just heard from my supervisor today that she wanted to meet with me first thing tomorrow morning. She also said that HR wanted to speak with me as well.

When I asked what it was about, she gave me a vague reply like,"Well, I'm not really going to be in one the meeting, so we'll just have to see what happens." When I pressed about whether or not I was to return to work after speaking with HR, she said,"Yeah, probably, I mean, I don't know, like I said, I won't be at the meetiong."

My gut instinct tells me that they are going to fire me.

Is this correct, or just me being paranoid?

I did notice something very peculiar recently -- all of the employees were asked to complete a large, multipage form detailing what their primary job duties are and how they would describe their job. It asked what percentage of time a certain task was relevant to the job, and how important it was percentage wise.

It also asked for us to write our own job description, which was weird. Another employee actually took pictures off of his wall, and when I asked why, he said something to the effect of,"Well, just in case."

Sounds like it. Keep your cool and don't make a scene.

That sounds like it, since if your supervisor won't answer your pressing ?'s. To be quite honest, someone who can't handle confrontations or stress like your supervisor, is not a good supervisor. Think back...Have you done anything lately that would seem improper? or missed deadlines or been tardy repeatedly? Tonight, think over the possibilities--so you can be prepared for the discussion. then tomorrow keep your cool.

If they have already decided to fire you, there is nothing you can do to sway their minds. So, do not stress over it. In your meetings, stay positive, dont raise your voice, and DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!!!!

If they do fire you, afterwords, go have a beer or ice cream etc, whatever little pleasure you enjoy. Then contact your unemployment office and start the job search.

I hope that's not the case, but you are right, it doesn't sound good. My advice, get everything ready at your desk ready to go before the meeting. At the meeting, don't talk, just listen. Ask about things like continuation of health benefits and transfer of 401K etc. Also ask whether they will give you a reference for your job search. Be clam, collected and professional. As I said, let's hope that's not the case.

Possibly correct, pack up your stuff before the meeting just in case. They may be letting several people go.

If they do fire you: Do not overreact, do not burn bridges, thank them for the opportunity to work with them and walk out calmly.

You will still receive severance pay and their may still be a chance of receiving a nice recommendation or using them for networking later.

Yep, I guess you have gotten yourself caught in the wringer. Did you do anything that would put your job in jeopardy? Were you doing what you were supposed to do. Whom did you harass. Not enough information to fully analyze the situation.

Lots of luck on your new job.

Of course on the other hand, they might be promoting you.

wow, that's kinda sucky news, huh? and your boss wasn't so helpful. if you haven't done anything stupid, don't worry too much. if they let you go, they let you go, just remember there's a better job out there. hopefully they'll offer you a serverance package.
good luck.
