I was recently offered a job and foolishly accepted the first offer that they made me, but have since learned (via salary calculator) that I should have asked for more -- MUCH more. (The 25th percentile was $7k more, the 50th percentile $14k more, and the 75th $29k more.) Come to think of it, I do remember the person who would/will be my supervisor being pleasantly surprised when I told her my asking range.)

My only possible saving grace is that I haven't signed any paperwork. Do I have room for renegotiation, or have I already shot myself in the foot? And if I do ask for more, how do I go about doing so?

Have been working as a nanny for 20 years and am bored stupid! Really frustrated with applying for other jobs only to have people take one look at my cv,pat me on the head and say "oh,how cute"!. I have a brain,am well travelled, good with people and a fast learner. On the downside,I have no pc skills (just signed up for a course) and am rubbish with numbers. Would love to work in an environment that involves people, challenges me and would give me the chance to travel or ideally work overseas. Any advice appreciated.

You realize when you apply for a job using a "cool" email address like "LilThug69@xxx.com or you have a 3-minute 50 Cent song as your voicemail that you're pretty much destroying any type of first impression you can make.

Also, wearing your best pair of blue jeans accompanied by a $200 pair of sneakers, isn't going to impress anyone during a job interview. This isn't American Idol, it's reality.

There's nothing wrong with being the hip-hop pimp you think you are during your days off; but it's time to grow up just a wee bit and realize the world isn't one big rap video.

Otherwise, McDonald's will always be hiring.

And if you're over the age of 23 and this question applies to you...then you're probably not fit to be a parent.

My plant is shutting down and some of it is moving to another plant. I was first told. I would be given a 60 day notice when they no longer needed me. They then offered me a lower paying job and was told if I didn't take it. I volunteered for lay off and I would be terminated at their earliest convience. I was able to get a date from them which was one week. For some reason, this sounds illigal. What are your thoughts on this?

I just got a very insulting raise at my work of 1%. I have been there for 3 years now.
I have been given a wonderful new job opportunity, and they want me to start Monday. I told them I needed to give some sort of notice at work even if it was a week.
My question is do you think a week is good enough considering the insulting raise I just received?? On top of all of that my boss wouldnt let me leave work the other day when my 1 year old have a temp of 104.5!

What do you think I should do??

Ok so I have been offered a really great job - double the money I am currently on, more holiday, better hours, more training etc.
My current boss has been taking me for a bit of a mug, as a manager he is not that good BUT I like him as a person.

Unfortunately I work for a small firm (there is just 4 of us) and when I hand my notice in I know that the other employee is going on holiday when I intend to leave so it is going to leave them really short staffed. Plus my bosses mother has recently (this last week) been rushed to hospital.

I want to be nice about it but I need to take this opportunity! What is the best thing to put in my notice letter, how would you do it?
