I haven't worked for the Gap, but I think some of these tips will help:

1) Dress for the interview. Wear nice clothes and come well groomed.
2) Answer all questions honestly. If you don't know something, say so. Don't make it up. The interviewer will know or can check.
3) When you answer the question, look the interviewer in the eye. Looking away or looking bored will tell the interviewer you have something to hide or you don't really want the job.
4) Ask questions yourself: what is expected of me? What will my responsibilities be? How can I do better (move to management perhaps?)
5) Are you flexible? Are you willing to come in on short notice?
6) Are you still in school? Are there any extra-curricular activities that might interfer in your work schedule?
7) Can you handle grumpy or rude customers? How would you handle them?
8) How would you handle conflicts with co-workers?

These are just a few. If you practice some of these answers, that may help. Good luck on your first job!

During an interview, as questions are asked, listen to the question before responding, smile and when it's your turn to answer, give them an answer that shows you will focus on pleasing the customer and helping out the organization.

As a person who has conducted interviews with entry level candidates, the ones I want to hire are the people who want to become successful in that position and are there to help the company. If I sense all the person cares about is what is in it for them, I select a better candidate.

Also, dress suitably for the interview. Although it's the GAP, dress professionally (a step above what the customers wear) and make sure your clothes are clean and you look good. Appearance will be a big factor.

Also how you handle yourself from the moment you walk in until you leave the parking lot.

Good luck to you!

They could ask you why you want to work for them and if you like working wih people. Trust me, it's all common sense questions. Places like that, the most important thing is that you look presentable and not lazy. Just smile a lot and say you're a hard worker. The job is yours as long as you're available when they'll need someone and you seem friendly.

Wear some of their clothes when you go for the intereview and familiarize yourself with their products!
You can check them out prior to going in for your interview.
You'll do fine!
