They make a stipulation that we need to join some club, purchase something or pay shipping, handling and tax. Since they ask for money the offer isn't actually free....isn't that false advertising?

So my situation is that my husband took a job out of state and I will be relocating in 7 months. Renting our house is not an option! My fear is that I could not sell my house for what it is owed and thus a short-sale would be an option for me. Here is my question, while I am trying to sell my house here I will also try to buy house in the other state. So will buying a house in another state cancel out the option of short sale in the state I am currently living? Should I try to buy a house first in the other state before even trying to short sale my house here in Cali? Thanks!

what is the average amount of money that people cover their contents for? i have a 3 bed house with the usual amount of electrical paraphenalia, how much cover should i have? is there a site where you can work out how much everything would cost to replace?

On one hand they are suggesting the new Fair Tax will be collecting taxes from the underground economy (illegals, criminals, etc) that we are not currently collecting because they will now have to pay tax at the register. Ok, that makes perfect sense.

However, on the other hand, they make such a big deal about all the embedded taxes we are already playing (22% supposedly) and that with the Fair Tax at 23%, the net is only 1%. Well, if the taxes are all nearly embedded anyway, then are we not ALREADY collecting the taxes from the underground economy???

It SURE seems like Fairtax.org and the proponents of the fair tax are trying to have it both ways.

This approach seems dishonest and conflicting.

The state will pick up your nursing home costs AFTER all your resources have been gutted. If you don't put the family farm in someone elses name SEVERAL YEARS ahead of time...you loose it all. Of course the kids can pay the costs at $175/day. My friend did that in order to keep mamas house....mama lived in the home for 5 years...that's right $240,000 . OUCH. Get it together NOW!
Bottom line: Put it in your name (if she trusts you,that is)

I need to pay use tax on an item the company purchased origianlly using a resale certificate and no tax was charged because usually every item we purchase from them is resold. In this case, we used the product. When I calculate the amount of tax due, do I use the price I paid for the item ($32.80), or the price I paid for the item plus shipping ($46.47). I'm in TN if that helps. Thanks!

(1) Is it legal for a private management company charging for cutting grass and maintaining the street I live in. Its a Barratts House and we were not aware of this when we bought recently. The house is 6 years old. We are charged these fees and also pay council tax.
(2) They are also keeping a £50 deposit - surely this cant be legal.
Can anyone advise me ?????

I work in the airline biz and from time to time we are short of help, sometime people are told to stay "on the job", even if thier respective shift has ended.

Since I am part time and work a 5 hour day, I have to work 3 more hours of 1.0 OT till I get to 8 hours then it goes to 1.5 OT. This seems unfair that I am told to stay, but get payed at my straight time.

We have 2 books also on employee conduct.

The 1st book says that "if leaving would adversely affect operations, you should do the right thing and stay on the job."

The other states that "if operations would be affected by your leaving, it is expected that you would stay on the job until such time as management has cleared you to leave"

Can they really force someone to stay on the job under these circumstancesand not get paid 1.5 OT, why or why not?

I have about $30,000 in a CD account and the interest is 5.15% APY. I don't think I will be using this money before I reach 66. I am currently 35.
Should I keep this CD account or transfer to IRA?
What would be the best way?

I am currently busy with my National Diploma Computer Systems Engineering. I have completed most of my modules and will be completing my course end of 2008. I have worked in Namibia and currently I am working as a junior technician in South Africa.

I live in a house where i pay electricity, gas, cable, and rent. Today my roomate brings up to me that i havent yet paid for the washer and dryer. I was like, um what? This was over email. I am not sure if it mentions this in my lease, but does this seem weird???

I am interested in purchasing a home. My credit score is in the 650's. I have between 8-10K to put down. I earn about 80k a year gross 60 salary 20 bonus. My current expenses are about 8-9 hundred a month. How much can I afford to borrow? My current rent is 1050 a month, so I would not want my monthly payment to be much more than 1200.

landlord left apt a pigstye when he moved out. Took us 10 hrs to clean bath and kitchen. Told him according to the lease, apt had not been left in "a CLEAN, safe, and tennentable condition" therefore lease was null/void and that if I had EVER left a place in that condition I would not have received my sec. dep back therefore he would not be getting one from us. Offered to stay on at an increased rate for mo to mo rental or to use our 1st and last mo rent and be out at the end of 2mo. He announced that he is putting apt up for sale and we will have it showable at all times and be out with 30days notice.Is threatening to sue for remainder of lease, all court costs, etc, has left threatening msgs on voicemail, email, and had threatening letter Fed Exed to my work demanding the rent. We decided to vacate immediately and move in with family, put our things into storage because he has become so hostile. What can we do to protect ourselves?
