When I write the initial letter to my bank to claim back the high bank charges, do they write back or phone me and can they not comply if they dont want to...

I just find it too easy that my bank, Halifax, will lay down and let me take thousands back from them!

Not sure why you are due back bank charges. Did they charge you for an error that was their fault? If you open an account with high charges and agree to them I dont see them lowering charges or giving you any reimbursement. I would suggest that you call them first and ask for the correct process. Perhaps a little clarification would help.

If the terms and conditions of your account allow the bank to charge certain fees, then they will do nothing to give you money back.

A bit rude not to answer you, but check you T&C and your fees and charges book. Most timesthe problem is that people haven't read the book to understand how the account works.
