They make a stipulation that we need to join some club, purchase something or pay shipping, handling and tax. Since they ask for money the offer isn't actually free....isn't that false advertising?

It attract people basically, it could be consider false advertising, but often they would list a condition with it, but it's usually in fine-print or something else.

free attracts a lot of attention and yes they can say it if it is free when you buy something else. i guess it works for them. but you can't blame anyone but the people who bite on such silly things.
