The state will pick up your nursing home costs AFTER all your resources have been gutted. If you don't put the family farm in someone elses name SEVERAL YEARS ahead of time...you loose it all. Of course the kids can pay the costs at $175/day. My friend did that in order to keep mamas house....mama lived in the home for 5 years...that's right $240,000 . OUCH. Get it together NOW!
Bottom line: Put it in your name (if she trusts you, that is)

Artistagent116 - I hope you and your husband (or your children) are buying long-term care insurance. That promise may sound nice now but do you think it is really fair for your children to change your dirty diapers?

My grandmother passed away in January 2007 and for the last 4 months of her life she needed round-the-clock care. It nearly killed my mother to take care of her. Full days of work and then a full night of taking care of grandma. She only got about 4 hours of sleep a night and a nasty case of depression that took her 6 months to get out of.

I'm not worried. We have an arrangement with our children. My husband and I have our children's promise that we will stay in our home until the very day we die. We have agreed to allow a caregiver to come in, if the kids think we'll need one.

We would rather be at home (even if some people feel we are not as safe there) than in a nursing home. Our children respect us and we have no doubt that our wishes will be honored.

No one in either side of the family has gone into a home. We simply don't do that.

ADDED LATER:
Oh! You mis-understood. We would never expect our children to have to do that kind of care for us. As I stated in my answer, we would allow a caregiver (a nurse) to come into the home.
Also, I "wiped my mother's behind" during her last weeks on earth. I did not consider it a chore - after all.....she did the same for me when I was a baby. Doesn't anyone else love their parents that much? What's wrong with this world?

The Republicans have not pronounced something approximately denying Social risk-free practices to those that've reached the age of retirement. the fact is that the have confidence fund has been robbed or there could be sufficient funds to take care of this technology. you're able to desire to get your info promptly and be certain that what's occurring now has been occurring for years and you will't blame the two party by using fact they are the two absolute "failures". Corrupt scum that have stolen from an entire technology to insure they could be reelected quite than make the not ordinary judgements they might desire to have been making all alongside. This tax and spend administration will thoroughly destroy what's left of this usa and the different one would not have the middle to do what's had to maintain it.
