Here's my dilemna. My parents have 8 years left on their 15 year mortgage. They have just recently gotten stuck paying for a house they co-signed on and have decided to down-size into the smaller house (they are contracted to buy that house in 2 years) and my wife and I are living in their old house (the one with 8 years left on it).

Their credit has gone down hill since the co-signing mishap and they might not be able to get a loan for this other house (even if we bought their old house). I was wondering if we could put their smaller house in our name while we live in and fullfill their 15 year mortgage. (Does that make sense?) Is this legal? I don't see why not. Feel free to ask questions.

Maybe its me, but I dont get it. Why do these Hiring Managers make you jump through hoops of fire just to get hired? I mean its ridiculous. The jobs I applied for, they train you on the job. So why does expierence and work history matter? By the way this is retail im talking about, not anything where a degree is required. Now I realize they have a lot of applications, but really, does it take 2 months in a half to hire somebody?. Even if its not me. I mean just to hire somebody?. Meanwhile, you have people who can barely speak english doing customer service jobs. When you call a business for a question about a product, sometimes you will get somebody on the phone who you can barely understand. I know the managers cant discriminate against them, but come on, that job really should be for people who speak clear english so their questions can be answered without you having to keep saying-can you repeat that? I cant understand you?.

Say a company is being sued and they know they are in the wrong. The legal counsel says the penalty will be around 5 million. Would you be better off not reporting anything until it is settled or should you make an accrual for the estimated amount?

A little story. For some reason my employer decided to stop my direct deposit on my paychecks. So me thinking I had money in my bank account I went on spending as i normally do. To my shock I check in a few days that I have a negative balance on my acct. So I check with my employer and sure enough my check is sitting there waiting to be cashed and it never went out to DD.

So anyways I finally deposited the paycheck to my bank (JPM Chase) and now the money is in Present Balance but not in available balance? Why is this? I gave the check to the bank on Friday and its Wednesday when can I use the money? I have a negative balance of -$10.56 still.

Just curious to see if any one knows: If you get a work at home job, or online job, does it get reported on your taxes? I know it might count as another job, but will the government charge you more taxes (you will owe them money, instead of getting any back) for that type of job?

and know that your money was really going to help needy people recover... or pay medium taxes and have needy people get shoddy help that doesn't really work?

Sort of like would you buy yourself a reliable car for good money, or a junker that may keep taking more money and never work well....
Cause you get what you pay for, right? Even with social services.

i come from a upper-middle class family and have thus always lived quite comfortably. I find myself going into an artistic profession that generally has modest pay, even after decades in the discipline (i.e. $30-40k / year). i am pretty sure though that I will be getting about $2 million in an inheritance from various family members over the next 20 years. my question is: if i use this money properly, will the inheritance allow me to maintain the lifestyle I'm used to, despite my modest income? Or do I need to adjust my idea of what a reasonable life is (or change my profession)??

Facts:
- I have not lived at home since I was 18. My parents did not give me a living allowance. I paid for school through student loans.
- I turned 21 in March 2006.
- I was a full-time student until August 2006.
- I began working full-time in August 2006. (I made about $15,300 for the year. Long story short, my student job was through federal work study.)
- I got married in October 2006.

I filed (married/joint) and my mom filed (claimed me as a dependent) taxes for 2006.

The IRS sent both of us letters stating that we need to "get our story straight."

My mom is upset because now she owes something like $3,000 for claiming me as a dependent whereas I wasn't her dependent. Her accountant has suggested that I refile as married/separately... so I pay something like $1,000 and my mom can claim me as a dependent.

Does this situation sounds strange to you? I think her accountant doesn't know what she's doing. Recommendations?

She had borrowed 3000 on August 23. Two weeks later I gave her the money to pay, but the interest had taken the payoff to 4000. She paid 3500. I didn't know she still owed 500. Her first payment was due on Sept. 23. Since she had paid the 3500 in early Sept. she thought she was ok for her Sept. payment. When she went in to pay her Oct. payment, she found that the 500 had turned into 1500. She left without paying and started doing some research on usury laws. Her payment was due on Oct. 23 and they took her car in the middle of the night on Nov. 12. In reality, by paying that first 3500 she had paid in advance and hadn't even missed one payment. This is just too unfair. She is a teacher and spends her days making the world a better place. These people are criminals, but I don't know how to fight them. Surely, there are laws against this--especially given that she has paid 3500 since August 23 and this is only mid-Nov. The original loan was only 3000.
