The difference in costs for various things has varied considerably from item to item. However, using the Consumer Price Index as your guide, you could say that a million dollars in January 1965 would be worth about $6.7 million in September 2007.

Put another way, $150,000 in 1965 would buy you about the same that $1 million would buy you today. A million bucks is just not what it used to be.
