I am an analyst at a company I have been with for nearly seven years and now I have an oppurtunity for a position as an assistant office manager. The new job is two blocks from my house but I will be leaving my comfort zone. Would it be the right thing to do?

1) I had realized 2006 capital gains of $38,000 on which I paid taxes on my returns in 2007.

2) I currently have $40,000 of unrealized losses in 2007 (including Long Term & Short Term)

When I file my tax returns for 2007, can I in effect, wipe out the $38,000 gains that I was taxed for in 2008 when I file my taxes for 2007 in 2008?

Please let me know...

thanks!

You keep hearing about financial institutions making write-downs or write-offs or whatever the hell they're talking about.

What does that mean?

I am under contract to have a new home constructed by a builder. The bank has just appraised the land and new home construction project too low to be willing to give the loan. This despite stellar credit, no debt, and a 20% down payment. The builder has agreed to pay for a second appraisal. What should I look for to ensure that the builder did NOT shop for a builder friendly appraisal rather than an honest, independent one? In other words, what should I look out for? Any advice?

hi,
Doing finances in excel, is there anyway of making a button that says PAID and UNPAID then removes the amount in that line from the sum of direct debits?

eg
Sky >click paid>> direct debit line removes sky amount and shows a new total of the others that are still unpaid

I just switched over from a Savings Account to a Checking Account. They told me that my debit car should come in in about 14 bsiness days. They only gave me five free checks to use. Those are almost gone. Its been about 3 business days. I have no pocket money. I am running low on gas, minutes for my phone, and other stuff. What do I do? I need to get money. My check is deposited directly into my bank. I need money for gas to get back and forth to work everyday. No body will lend me money either. What am I supposed to do?

There is a lot of doom and gloom out there when it comes to the financial industry. What do I do to protect myself? I have my portfolio at etrade and many are saying they might go bankrupt. What happens to the shares I own if that happens? Is any place safe?
