4% state and 1% local= 5% total sales and use tax
1.5% state on grocery food purchases and 1% local=2.5% total tax on grocery food purchases
prescription drugs and medication are exempted from sales tax.

Sales tax does not work state by state. with very few exceptions is actually based on
State, County, Local County, City and Local City. in some areas it even goes deeper than that and includes special taxing jurisdictions (about 12,500 of them in the US) there is a free tool you can use at www.freetaxrates.com it even shows a satellite image of the place you trying to find the tax for.
