I will be starting school in the next semester to become a funeral director. I would like to try and get a job with the medical examiner as an assistant or as a diener in a hospital morgue. I am currently working in a cemetery office. There are no positions open in the funeral home at this point. I'm looking for more experience than what I'm doing now-which is office work.

With the Office Administration Degree, I have the choice of being an Administrative Assistant or Executive Assistant.... (Basically a professional Secretary) Is there any interest that the Peace Corps would have in me, because I haven't noticed this degree in any of their fields of interest.
Thanks for your answers. =]

to a 3rd party creditor for an amount less than what was due...and wrote paid in full on the check and attached a letter saying if you cash this you accept this check as paid in full...and they accepted it? Did they write out the reminding balance. I heard this could be done and if they try to continue to collect from you , you can take them to court.

My ex and I were married for most of 2006 and we separated (she moved to another state) late in 2006 with her 2 kids. She hadn't worked for about half the year, I've ALWAYS paid all house payments, utilities, etc. We agreed that we would file jointly and now she decided to file married/separate which buries me since I made about 75% of our income. I don't think I can file head of household since she lived with me the latter part of the year, and I'm assuming I have no right to claim her children since I didn't adopt them or anything, just provided their support. This is going to cost me thousands, is there anything I can do?

Recently I was out of town and had a pipe burst behind the wall of my rental unit. I had a water restoration company come out and do the cleanup which was minimal. The person required my sister to give her written permission to do the work, but she was requested at the same time to provide a written estimate of the work being done. She said the work should run about $400 to $600. When she arrived at the property, she again called my sister and told her that additional work was required, but that the total would not exceed $800. Again she was reminded to send a written estimate. Nothing was forthcoming and the work was completed. When I returned and called to find out what the total amount was so I could pay this debt, she told me it was $1,200. When I refused to pay this and told her I would only agree to pay the $800 she had verbally quoted my sister, she threatened to place a lien on my property. Can she legally do this when I have not given written permission to a $ amount?

My fiance has a 401K and recently switched companies and we decided it was the best thing to cash out the 401k. However, with the market crashing, does that effect how much the balance will be, or did they freeze the account since we're doing paper work to have it cashed out? I've never had one so I don't really know how it works. Thanks.

A friend of mine, and I are looking to rent a two bedroom apartment together. (which is good as we are both basically homeless; I'm crashing on friend's floors, and she is bouncing between hotel rooms)

The problem is that I don't honest know how you do that. I don't know the 'trick', that I know is there.

It's the same with jobs, I can find a listing on Craig's List, and send my resume, but it took months of that not working, and I know there must be a key step I'm missing.

As with jobs, as with apartments. I've never had one of my own (never been on the lease at least), so I don't know if I know what I'm doing. We look on Craig's List, and Rent.com, and Apartments.com, and we've tried driving around looking for places with vacancies, but something still seems off. Any advice?
