Becoming a firefighter is a very demanding job, but after a tough job, you can always feel really good knowing that you might have saved many lives. Working in the oilfield is also dangerous, however, but you know you have a pretty interesting job. I think that you really have to look at the positives, maybe make a list of how many positive things you have for those jobs; maybe you've always wanted to be a firefighter, so you'd give a point for firefighting. Some of your family or friends may work at the oilfield. That's a point for working in the oilfield. After making a list of positives, look over the negatives of working at either place, such as getting hurt and other problems like that. After looking at both of these, it might help you out a little bit to see which job will work out best for you. This may not be exactly professional advice, but it really helped some of my family members. Best of luck choosing a job!

whatever makes you happy
if you REALLY like working at the oilfield continue working there unless the risks are to great or the pay is too low

firefighting is a good career, you save people and i have heard that it has an adrenalin rush. only the risks are there

if you have a hard time choosing, do both, continue working at the oilfield and become a volunteer firefighter

How young are you? When I was 21 I joined the Air Force. I haven't looked back since. You could be a firefighter in the military. Not only do you get to work with Jets, you also get to travel the world. My little brother is Air Force too and he is a firefighter. He LOVES IT!!! He works 24 on and 24 off, fives days straight, then 3 days off. You have no bills, just the ones you create. The Air Force pays for your food, rent, EVERYTHING. firefighting is as dangerous as the oilfield... however, i think you should do what you really want to do... if being a firefighter is your dream then go for it.. but i recommend that you stay in this oilfield job while learning to become a firefighter.. since you will be making money at the same time.. and once you become a firefighter.. quit that nasty job.. =) my advice is not professional but i really want to be a psychologist and give advice so.. yeah =)

Look up Red Adair on the web and see if there's a biography of his life. If not, read various articles about him and perhaps you'll be inspired. He was the world's foremost expert on containing and putting out fires on oil rigs and entire oilfields.
