we have the option of spending 5k to buy down points on our new mortgage. It would only save us 46.50 a month, but would save over 27k in interest over 30 years.

I think if I was an employer I would think more highly of someone who had good negotiation skills and goes after what they want and at least took a chance. What do you think? I will be interviewing for a job in which negotiating advertising rates and packages is my main task (this is what my expected experience is in), if I dont try to negotiate my own pay could that actually make me look less qualified?

I reside in our fine nation's capital where crime is a problem, but has been under control in my neighborhood for 2 years now. We just signed another 1 year lease in September. Since then both my house mate and myself have each been assaulted/battered and threatened ("We gonna end you!"). We've filed reports, followed-up, spent a ton of time and cell phone time trying to find a solution. I don't want to cut and run, but it's just not good for us to live here any longer. To further complicate the situation, our landlords reside in Kabul, Afghanistan! Is there any way to get out of a lease due to measures as extreme as this? Also, whether it helps or not, I can provide a doctor's note that it is "unsafe and unhealthy" environment for me to reside in. Thanks to all who respond.

Before I make any decisions on my future as an investor, I wanted to get a general feel for all options: I know there's real estate investing, stock market investing, small business investing, but are there other UNUSUAL, or less common and more lucrative methods?

I just turned 18, and I'm a jeans-hoodie-and-sneakers kind of dresser, described by many as a "tomboy".

So, I just got a job in a small clinic as a file clerk, and the dress code is "business casual".

How can I conform to the dress standards without being super uncomfortable? A skirt is foreign to me, and wearing slacks makes me feel like I'm 35. I'm also a wuss - I tried wearing "professional" shoes and at the end of the day, my feet were drenched in blood (no joke). I still have trouble walking due to all the cuts and scabs I still have - the shoes were my size.

How can I make "business casual" comfortable for me, and appropiate for my young age? I hate sounding like I'm whining, because I know that's just the way the workforce is, but I'm stumped. LOL.

If the husband makes $45 K a year and the wife makes $40 K per year, after taxes, is the woman's salary still profitable. Basically what I'm asking is, with child care expenses, taxes, etc would it make more sense for the woman to forgo her salary and become a stay at home mother?

4,000 from our mortgage company, the payment starting next month is going to go from 1,424.00 to 1,909.00 for 12 months, is there any way that the mortgage company would extend that out? I dont make alot of money, and that extra 500.00 is going to kill me.

If a bank has foreclosed a house, I've heard that they generally counteroffer several times before accepting, but usually take an offer well below the asking price because they want to get rid of it.

Is this rumor true?

I have an investment property in the U.S.A. that will need to be refinanced in two years. I currently have an ARM, but will not be able to get the rent to cover the new payments. If I foreclose on this property, will it affect my credit here in Canada? I want to buy more homes in Canada in the near future.

Has anyone ever used a rental agency to find an apartment? Are they worth it, or do they basically get the same results you would online? Mostly I just want to know about how much they charge.

I worked for a company for a few years, got great performance reviews, and merit rasies, now I reapplied, and they told me I am not qualified! I worked the same job in the same company before. I never got a bad review or written up or anything. What is going on? Could they be holding some tiny little thing that I cant remember against me? What is up? How can be not qualified for a job I did very well before? I did leave at a very busy time to concentrate on college. Could they just be mad at me for that?

I know banks can foreclose on the house and sell it, but can they legally garnish my wages, take my savings, etc. or are they only limited to taking away the house? Will I still be liable for the remaining balance on the mortgage? I'm not talking bankruptcy. Does the bank taking my house clear my debt with them since they will pocket the proceeds from the sale? Isn't that a risk banks assume when lending?

And, of course, I'm overthinking things now LOL.

The house was a foreclosure and the bank siezed it. I'm offering about 60k less than what they want (it's definitely a fixer upper inside, and that's saying it kindly). It was over 400K, but its been lowered twice already to 355K. It's been on the market for over 30 days now, and I don't think there are any other offers.

The bank obviously wants to minimize their loss, but want to get rid of it soon.

So here's my question....

Do you have any predictions about the market? Do you think it'll pick up in a couple months or stay a buyer's market? And I know you all aren't pyschic, but if you had to guess, would you think that the bank would accept the offer on account that they want to settle this ASAP?

Thoughts?
