I am currently 30, single with about 100K in savings/investments, no debt, no other assets. I currently make around 100k+/year with bonus, but I detest my job and would much rather start a modest business or switch to a career that would allow me more spare time. How much do you think I should have saved up to be on track to retire somewhat comfortably down the road?

How do you decide how much money to spend on remodeling? What should your cap be. Say you bought a home for 200k 5 years ago and the houses in your neighborhood have a more updated look and selling for 260.
Is there a formula to estimate a cap on how much you should spend on updating and remodeling.

I would like to sell my house and buy another one in California.

What would be a reasonable deal to ask a realtor/real estate agent to give you if they handled both transactions?

No one has offered me a deal but what would be a good one that I should approach an agent friend with as an offer, say "If you give me X I'd like to have you handle the sale of my house and the purchase of my next one at the same time"

Thanks.

I was watching a UK bbc tv program called ' The Dragon's Den'. Its where entreprenurs or people with businesses or ideas approach rich investors (the dragon's) to help them with improving the business further. In it the main question always asked is, what is the projected future sales of the venture and what is the profit or loss of that.

My Question is, how can anyone know what the future sales will or would be and thus what the profit will be etc?

Thanks x

I work as a Recruitment Manager looking after a small team and recruiting on my own desk too for a small satellite office. Frustrated at the lack of input or support - about 3 months ago i asked for help. To date, my bosses have not helped at all and often ignore my e-mails or calls. Today both bosses came to visit and said the office is not commercially viable. So, they have given me a choice - walk and the office will be closed. We will all be paid until the end of December. Stay - and I have too sack two people, then they will set targets that I have to meet. these will probably be set far too high to actually achieve - and with the fact that I will now be the only consultant in the office - virtually impossible. If they are not met - they will close the office anyway, but will dismiss and not pay us anything for december. So, I'm backed in a corner - damned if I do, damned if I don't!! Help and advice please?!!!! should I stay or should I go? My boss is calling me tomorrow.

I normally claim my child i just had a baby in july. but i just started to work in october so if i claim the earned income credit it wont be that much will it maybe $1000 or not even that. My estimated income for the year will only be about 2700 with $315 fed income tax withheld. But my brother has been working all year can i let him claim him and let him claim the Earned Income Credit. His income will be about $10000 give or take with maybe $300-$400 fed taxes withheld.

Will they allow him to claim them and the EIC, what will the estimated EIC be????

The house we live in is a rental, and our landlord sold it to someone else. Now, the people upstairs from us recieved notice that they have to months to vacate, as the landlord is moving in.. is this legal? We're in Delaware, btw. I'm also afraid that we're next, because if the landlord moves in, it's written into our lease that if our dog barks, we have to get rid of it! Who would dictate that then, if the landlord lives above? He could lie and just make us get rid of the dog!!

I will be receiving a formal job offer from a company by the end of this week, should I give notice to my current company now or wait until I have said offer in hand? Also, is 10 days enough notice? I want my last day to be a week from Friday, should I just wait until my offer comes?

Hi,

What are the top careers over the next 5-10 years?

I'm currently a 2nd Line Support technician and it's something I enjoy, but I'm worried about my future within IT. I've been considering a career within product design, engineering design, etc.

What jobs will offer good prospects, especially within IT and maybe design?

here's the mortgage deal I'm being offered --

we owe 250,000
current interest rate is 6.75%
28 more years to go

scheduled interest rate should be 8.75%, effective this month

the deal being offered -- 5.25% interest for 5 years, after which it returns to the scheduled (ARM) rate.

effect on payment:
a) at 8.75% payment is
b) at 5.25% payment is

difference of 3.5% or 8750/yr [if it was interest only]

Data: I'm not paying anything for this deal. Obviously, my mortgage interest deduction will be about 8750 per year lower on my taxes [yes, we itemize -- if AMT doesn't get us]

Question: is the 43750 I'll save by agreeing to this taxable income to me? If so, when do I have to report it and pay the tax?? [it's almost enough all by itself to push us into the AMT if I have to report it all in one year.]

thanks for the help, guys

[citations to IRS rules and forms very helpful]

I know this doesn't seem to make much sense but with the way prices are dropping in Michigan I could sell my small home for about 5-10 thousand less than what I owe and there are much nicer homes around the corner that are selling for $100,000 less than what they were worth 3 years ago and is roughly what my small house (and my mortgage payment) was worth back then.
Should I first talk to a realtor or a mortgage broker?

Do they usually have all your background checks/references back? I only ask because I changed some dates on my resume. They called my references I know that. They called me and said "everything came back" we want to offer you the job contingent on a drug screen. I took the drug screen and was told someone would follow up with me. No one ever has so I don't know what happened. I am not on drugs so it is not that. How long do those tests take to come back?

I am looking for a rented house in cardiff via gumtree and have 2 instances where the landlords say that they want to be assured that I have the money to pay the rent. They say they stay out of town and can't waste time to come down to show me the property to see if I like it. If i show them a copy of a transaction of sending money to my husband, then they say they will care to show the property as that is the ONLY way they can trust of me having capability to pay. Should I believe this is not some form of cheating?

I have a degree in International Studies (with an emphasis in politics and Spanish) and I have no idea what I want to do with it. I graduated in May and no one wants to hire me, though I live in TX and speak Spanish and graduated at the top of my class from a major university. I'm tired of school and would like to work for a bit, but am not against furthering my education later in the future. The problem remains, however, that even if I choose to further my education with another degree, I have no idea what to study. I have done all kinds of internet research on what positions are out there and still have problems matching my skills and my interests to positions available. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

a relative of mine started her own business... everything was going fine until she was denied a loan because of poor credit. Everything I always read says Money for women, a loan for women starting their own business, why isn't this the truth, why don't they state out there must have 110% perfect credit!!...Are there any women in central illinois that have opened their own business, and needed a little boost of help? Did you get it? What is the best way to get approved for a loan with bad credit? or is there another way to get money for her business???
