When we bought a home in New Jersey, in 1997, we had to hire a lawyer to buy our home and to sell our home. In 2002, we bought a house in Texas, without a lawyer. What is the difference in needing a lawyer in NJ and not needing one in Texas?

Goodwin Auto Supply does not segregate sales and sales taxes at the time of sale. The register total for March 16 is $13,944. All sales are subject to a 5% sales tax. Compute sales taxes payable, and make the entry to record sales taxes payable and sales. (Round your answers to 0 decimal places. For multiple debit/credit entries, list accounts in order of magnitude.)

March 16 DEBIT CASH $13,944
......................CREDIT SALES $13,247(incorrect!
CREDIT SALES TAXES PAYABLE $697 (incorrect!)
The only thing incorrect is the 2 numbers. What am I doing wrong?

Let's say I purchased and sold stocks short term since May. My total losses are $-3000
Next month (Dec) if I were to make a profit of $5000, would the tax due be:
5000
-3000
------
+2000 x 25%= $500?

OR

5000x25%=$1250?

I've looked this up, but found nothing as cut and dry as the above example. Is it that simple or am I missing some factors?

By the way, I fall into the 10-15% tax bracket.

Hey guys, here it i, I'm a college student and I have ambitions of opening up my own fast-food franchise.I guess I need to know the following;

1- How much capital would I need to open up and run at least one maybe two fast-food locations?

2- What should I be studying in college to be best prepared for a career as a fast-food business owner?

3-How difficult is it to actually succeed in doing this and how long will it take to actually begin making profit?

4-What states or cities have the best reputation for being fast-food restaurant friendly or in other words, where is it least cut-throat in opening and succeeding with a new business?

5-And last but not least, I am over 100k in school debt already and my credit is as bad as it can almost get, so how could I go about getting the capital to do this besides more school loans?

Also, if there are any great resources that experienced people could share with me or links or what have you, I would greatly appreciate it...Thanx everyone

I don't want to be a grocery bagger or a fast food worker. Do department stores, places like Target, T.J. Maxx, Waldenbooks, etc. Hire 15 year olds? I search online, but everything is either 16 and up or 18 and up. Thank you!

I live in CA. My tenant has given a 90 day notice, and is already moving her stuff. She claims her 18-19yr son(whose name is not on the lease) will continue to live here and serve us a 30 day notice before he moves out. Can I let them do that? The notice will end soon and I need some help urgent. What are my rights? What can I do about this? Please advice.

Job #1 has very flexible schedule, and job #2 has semi flexible schedule. Job#2 is managing a very quiet gallery basically sending email/answering calls/sending out flyers. Most of time, I am just sitting around, but I need to be there. And I can definitely do another part time (job#1), but they want me to work full time now (this is off site telecommuting job for blogging website)

Question I have is......Am I even allowed to do that?
When they mail out W2 forms at the end of year, would they automatically know I am also employed at another company?
Do I need to inform both employers? I see this many times, usually more of top level people who hold title of director or manager or chairman to 3 or 4 companies.

Also......How will I be taxed? Combine both W2, and tax on total?
Thanks.
