I work from a satelite office, my boss works from our HQ, 400 miles away. Is it acceptable for me to email him to give my 2 weeks notice?

I think so, yes. He has it in writing that way, so it seems acceptable to me.

Two weeks notice in writing is standard. In person is not expected. You can resign by emailing an attachment, especially when your boss' office is not in the same building as yours.

Well, I think that you should fax it to him. That way he at least has a paper copy, versus the alternative, your boss deleting the email and then asking why you didn't notify him of your decision.

Call him to give him the heads up and then send a formal letter. They may keep it in your personnel files for future reference.
