I was a franchisee of a UK firm a number of years ago. Obviously when I was a franchisee I signed a franchisee agreement. I launched and terminated the franchise due to personal resons. Obviously the agreement contained a "do not compete" clause. I have managed to lose my copy of the agreement and the franchisor refuse to respond to requests to provide me with a copy. My question is therefore:

[a] how long can I be stopped from working in the same industry i.e. setting myself up in direct competition and possibly becoming a franchisor myself?

[b] is there a statutory maxmium none compete term? E.g. 5 years?

[c] can I force them to provide me a copy of the original agreement? E.g. using the data protection act or other legislation?

Please advise if you are familiar with UK law and please state whether or not your a solicitor or barrister!

Many thanks

Dan

At work the other day, I was told that my co-worker, whom I work very closely with, had made two basic complaints about me to management. The complaints were 1) sometimes she can't find me, and 2) she feels as though while she is on break I don't get enough work done. Well, we are both in nursing, and often times one of us will be pulled into a room to assist with something as directed by our supervisors. It is expected and we all know that. Due to the nature of our jobs there is alot of times when things can get incredibly busy and although we are working...we don't always get as much done as we would like. My problem is instead of my co-worker coming to me with this problem, she spoke to 3 other co-workers, plus management. Tomorrow I will see her for the first time since all this happened. What should I do in regards to her and dealing with this. I asked other co-workers if they felt the same way as she did about me, and they all said no, that they find me to be a good.

I've heard of a couple of servers actually paying big time come tax season, like a few thousand dollars. I assumed that the void checks I got every two weeks was the government taking my hourly $2.63 for taxes. I make average $200 a night in tips. Is it possible that I would still owe the government more on top of my $2.63/hour that I never see??

Or does it just split the common stock par value?. Say you are holding 100 TREASURY STOCK shares each with $10 par value, then would a 2-for-1 stock split decrease par value of TREASURY STOCK shares to $5 and number of treasury shares to 200?

I thinking of applying for a credit card with 0% for 15 months. My credit is pretty good. I'm going to transfer a balance from a high interest card over to it and I owe 3600$ on my car. Was wondering if you could transfer a car loan over to a card?

the year 2007, is that correct?
So, I guess that if it rolls that way, then it makes since that for the year 2006, if is something more than just the few $ then filing by April would work.
Do I have that right?

As of now, I am a nursing student and will graduate after 4 years. I will then enter medical school and after graduation will take my specialization in the US. After I graduate in my scpecialty, I will have a capital of about 500k - 2 Million USD. What business would be good and where? I actually plan to start my own software company business like Mr. Gates. Do you think some other businessmen would like to join in my company then and start a global corporation with me contributing that amount only? I like the idea of having big profits.

A National sales tax of 20% on everything except food, clothing, rent, mortage payments for primary residence only and any medical related issues such as perscriptions or doctors visits. The 20% would give 10% to federal, 5% to the state and 5% to local {city if you live in town, county if you do not}. No exemptions for anything, and cap the tax to only the first $5,000 of big ticket purchases.

Im not active anymore, but I once was.

the extra time on my hands to file, then normally i would. Only this time, I was out of the country when it came time to file, and it would have been like a yo-yo effect with the mailing system. That was what made me question if I needed to actually file or save myself the headache that it was creating.
I chose to just let it go, to not hassel with it, and take care of other things. My dad brought up the question a few days ago, and I could not explain where i thought i found the information regarding the deduction amount or about not having to file the taxes.
I have been worried ever since over this, so I seeked an answer from here, hoping that someone would know how to answer the question.
The amount of money was just under $1,000 and it was working some part time hours for McDonalds inside of a Wal-Mart. Not much of anything, just killing 2 months till I was to travel out of the country on a visit.
Thanks for all the help you all are giving me, I am very appreciative.
Steph

A stock option is purchased at $1 per option, 100 shares and $50 per share. When the stock price rises to $60 per share, the sophisticated investor sells his/her option for $10 per share (or 1,000 for the unit of 100 shares and realizes a gain of $900).

I understand how the investor has made the $900 gain, as the stock price has gone up. I do not understand how the investor can sell the option for $10 rather than sell the actual stocks. I see how selling at $10 makes the appropriate gain of $900, but how can the actual option have gone up in value? Would it be correct to assume that there are a lot of options selling for $10 at that point in time?
