With a ROTH IRA do you have the choice of putting more money into throughout the year? Or do you put one lump sum and wait till tnext year to add more?

You can put as much or as little you want at a time, but there is a max of $4k a year in 2007 and $5k in 2008. This is given that you fall under a certain income limit. If you could afford it, I'd put it all in as soon as you can because you can't start earning unless you have funds in it.

If you want to contribute the max for 2007, you have until tax day 2008 to do so.

Also, you can contribute for a prior year all the way up to tax filing deadline. Example: For tax year 2007, you can contribute until April 15, 2008.
