From what I am hearing about the US subprime mortgages debacle that's probably double the value of most properties.

How about linking up with some of the outfits in the UK who promote property exhibitions, seminars, introductions etc - but just be aware that the reporting of US property problems here in the UK means you could have a considerable struggle to convince anyone that the US domestic market is worth investing in at the moment.
