i did yahoo search on Mortgage Cancellation Tax Relief and maybe 9 results with same articles, different links. i called irs today to confirm and a person said he hasn't heard of it. he said usually, irs gets informed before publically announced yet isnt aware of such. also said it's not easy to pin point the eligibility of 1099 bail out or not.
im filing chapt 7 because what irs web stated for 'you may not owe 1099 if you are insolvent, or bankrupt'.
im backing out on a shortsale because of 1099 fear that i'll owe irs for years.

am i making a good decision of filing bankruptcy and how can i rebuild my credit again...?

I don't plan to steal your idea, this is just an assignment for college course that requires me to do a quick and dirty 1-page feasibility study. The business idea can be anything: a new product, a new service, a new way of doing business, etc. I am completely stuck and cannot think of anything so ANY ideas are welcome!

This is for a college math class..I'm trying everything I can here!! Can anyone help out with ANYTHING on this loan problem? I have a test tomorrow, and our professor didnt go over this problem with us:

The Smith's want to buy a $144,000 house. Their income is $50,000 a year. They have $30,000 in savings. The current rate of interest is 7.2% APR. They would like to take out a 20 yr. loan. Taxes on this house is $2400 a yr. and the house insurance is $300 per yr.

Questions:
1. Can they afford the home?
2. How much can the Smith's afford to pay/month on the house, taxes, and insurance?
3. Estimate the total pay for the house.
4. Can the Smith's make a down payment?
5. What is the house payment not including taxes and insurance?
6. How much will the Smith's pay for this house at the end of their mortgage?
7. How much interest will they pay at the end of theis mortgage?
8. What will their monthly expenses be on this house?

If anyone has any input, please help!

Here in Massachusetts EVERYONE has to have health insurance, and if you wanna drive you have to have car insurance. How can this be legal? How can the government force me into buying a product or service?! Whats next, are they going to make it mandatory for everyone to buy 7th generation ipods? This is ridiculous. What if i dont want insurance? What if i cant afford it? WTF?!! Is their any legal way around this? Or are they going arrest me if i dont get any insurance? Should i board up my windows and stock up on guns?

I am a college student studying taxes.
In my book it briefly mentioned that you can claim a vehicle expenses deduction. I know that for business purposes there is usually a deduction or reimbursement from your employer, but is there a deduction for a car with personal use.(either mileage or gas expenses) Also as a student would it benefit me to depreciate my car? (Not sure if I can do that either?)
