I've been thinking, ever since I left High School over 10 years ago, I did nothing but work in shops. As the years passed, I grew to hate retail work very much & found a new career in cleaning. I'm proud to say that nowadays, I am a much happier & healthier person ever since taking up 2 part-time cleaning jobs as I really enjoy them & earn a heck of a lot more money than I ever did in retail.

So, my own personal experience has led me to ask what I would consider two very important questions.

1: As long as you're happy, healthy & are earning good money, does it REALLY matter what you do for a living?

2: Are too many people too fussy nowadays about their choice of careers?

I'm now a federal employee and I have no plans on returning to my old state job.

The state retirement is a defined benefit plan and the account is earning about 5% a year. I think I could do better than that in my Roth IRA but I don't want to pay any kind of tax penalty in the rollover, so if that is the consequence, I would probably go with the TSP.

Right now, at my job, people are putting in extra work, and other work is not being done, while a co-worker is on a 12-week maternity leave. It doesn't seem to make sense. I know it's part of the family-friendly, employee retention policies that a lot of companies have, but it can really make things difficult for the people who aren't taking those leaves.

An asset whose written down value (cost less depriciation) in the books of the firm is zero. However the asset is very much in use and this asset gets destroyed by fire. The firm lodges its claim with the Insurance co. for the said asset at 100000/-.
What will be the accounting entry for :
1) Loss of the asset by fire ?
2) Insurance claim lodged/ receivable ?

The firm later on replaces the destroyed asset by purchase of a new asset whose cost is 150000/-.
What will be the accounting entry for the new asset purchased vis-a-vis the lost asset?

I saw this ad and I'm wondering if it's possible, or likely:

Buy a house and pay off your debts!
You can buy a house and pay off your debts in your real estate purchase.
If you didnt have your car payment or credit cards bills, you could afford a house payment and get a big paycheck at tax time.

Thanks!

Actually i am a visa holder and work as a clerk in a liquor store and make hardly $1300 a month which is well enough for my rent and other bills and food. I dont see any other way to pay it.
so i am just wondering is it a good idea to file for bankruptcy and does the immigrant status matter in this case and do you have to go to the court with your attorney.

Hi Guys,

I'm a 30y/o career changer to accounting and have recently been offered an internship in corporate tax. The problem is that I have only 2 days to accept but I have 2nd round interviews with Public Accounting firms in the next week, one a big 4.

I truly want my CPA and the public accounting experience but what are the chances of getting an offer from a 2nd round interview. This position is on the table and I'm not opposed to a taxation internship that will probably lead to a full time offer.

What are your thoughts... Should I gamble on the 2nd round interviews or accept the corp tax internship?

My neighbor has a L shaped lot his house sits next to mine but he ownes a 1 acre field behind my property, my lot is 90X180, he has moved his shed 5 feet behind the rear of my property, it is a eyesore, the shed faces my land. Local zoning states the shed has to be in the rear or side of his land, I'm not sure how to classify that because it is in the front part of the field. He has also built a garage on the 1 acre field and now has started to drive threw my side yard to access it, he drives along his border and mine driving about 1 foot into my land, im starting to get upset because he ran over my childs soccer ball that was on my property, the land has been surveyed and is clearly marked, I have advised him to stop using my land, and i was going to put up tomato stakes and rope off the property border untill i can get a fence.

Suppose I retire and start collecting Social Security benefits, but I also work part time and earn income. Ignoring any income taxes taken out of my pay, does Uncle Sam also still take social security tax from my wages even though I am now a beneficiary of the system?

I am thinking about moving to Washington state, but I'd like to know more about the real estate there. I like the Port Angeles/Forks/La Plush area (northwest of the northwest).

Also, if anyone has any information about other inexpensive northern, green, western states (Oregon, etc) that might be nice to live, please let me know (and give city/county names) THANKS!

My fiance and I have recently bought a house and moved out of our apartment. When we did the final walk through at the apartment they said their only concern was a small dirt stain in the living room and a small stain in my son's bedroom that I'm pretty sure was spilled pop. Both of the stains I'm sure would've come out with carpet cleaning they even said that the stains should come out; but today we just got a bill from them saying they had to replace all the carpet and they're keeping our $300 deposit and we owe them another $400 that they want in 7 days or they'll send this to collections. Is there anything that we can do to fight this? Or can we atleast demand that they give us the old carpet since we're paying for it?

Years ago I came up with the idea of shooting blue jeans full of bullet holes and marketing them. They were called Calamity Jeans. There was a bull's eye patch on the back pocket with a 22 bullet hanging from it. They were really cute! I got really famous all over the world. I was even a question on Jeopardy and Hollywood Squares. Although I got famous, I never really got the jeans off the ground. Does anyone think I should try marketing them again? I also had bullet jewelry and key chains to match! I'm still selling jewelry, but not with bullets!

I have a subprime loan, mortgage went up an additional $1000.00 a month, and my income has changed for the worse, and I am upside down in the mortgage and can't re-finance. The mortgage company tells me I owe $323,500 which includes costs. My mortgage balance was $299,000 before I defaulted 7 mos. ago. Costs seem excessive ($23,500). More then likely the house won't sell. Other then a bankruptcy, what are my options?
