I am 30 and have no credit score. I accrued a huge amount of back child support about ten years ago and circumstances led me unable to work and pay support. Of course, that large amount has hindered everything I do ever since. I am really trying to get my life going in a positive direction. The slightest emergency has me in a lose lose situation every time. Because of this I decided it is time I get a newer reliable car, but am reminded that I have no credit. I have never had a credit card. All that is on the report is my back child support judgements and a judgement to my apartment complex. That judgement was paid in full. The child support is about $16,000.
I recently applied for a secured credit score to atleast help build some credit, but wonder how badly the support judgement will hold me back. I pay regularly on the back pay, but it doesn't seem to show that on my report. It is listed as collections or something.
Any insight?
