Hi, I got an offer to transfer a balance to a new card . I not sure how this works.

1. If I decide to transfer, Do I have to close old card because I still have half the limit left on card $1000 and will basically need only $500 transferred. Or will they transfer the whole $1000 and I can use the new card. I didn't want to (close) old card because its bad for credit score, I want to keep it open. can a card be transferred and still remain open??

2. they also offered me a credit limit up to 30,000 but sure they will probably give $1,500. Do I get the $1,500 + the rest of my money of the balance on my old card. please help with this decision.. thanks

I am currently in college. I just started my second quarter and realized that books and supplies cost an arm and a leg, perhaps even my own life. Hahaha...
Anyway, I know that tax season starts around March 08, what are some items that I can put as deduction? Should or should I not make an itemized tax report as a college student? Why or why not? I want to maximized my return since art school is pretty expensive and I only make under $14,000 a year. I live in an apartment and I think I will be getting a disability soon. What should I do with my taxes?

I have read that in 2008 the capital gains tax will be 0% for those in the 15% tax bracket (about $63700 AGI)
If true, how will the IRS treat a combination of capital gains and earned and unearned income.
For example
sold stock with a cap gains of $63700
additional income $40000
will first $63700 from cap gains be considered first?, therefore $0 tax and then the $40000 considered in the 25% bracket?

I have an online business (self-employed). If I put $1,000 (or whatever amount) into advertising my business, then do I get a $1,000 deduction? Or do I only get part of the money back/applied toward tax bill? Try as I might, I just can't understand taxes.

I am a dog trainer and I used to work for a company. Now I work on my own. I am trying to come up with a name for my business. For now I am using Caiti the Dog Training Lady, but friends and family don't like it. I don't like it either, but every time I think of something I google it and there is already another business with that name. Usually the business is far away and its not always for dog training. For example, there is a far away biz called Good Dog Agility Club, and there is a sort of nearby biz called What A Good Dog! dog training. What are the rules about naming my business? Any suggestions on a name are welcome, too!
