I just opened up an etrade acount and I was wondering on which tech companies I should invest in? I'm thinking of buying some shares of Microsoft and Cisco Systems. But what other tech companies should I know about that have cheap prices?

And why is the AMD stock price so low? It was at like $13 per share the last time I checked. AMD can't be doing that bad.

Hope someone can help :)

I recently applied for an American Express card and it said that I got declined because I don't have sufficient credit history and that the credit cards that I have have not been open long enough... the question is, how long would long enough be? 6 months?

I recently turned 18 and have 2 credit cards. Payments have been made on time... I believe I applied for the cards about 4 months ago.

I am married (although the house is only in my name), and I have a second mortgage. I am just going to foreclose on my home because we got into a risky mortgage that we totally cannot afford and payments are skyrocketing.

As a result, we are living check to check, barely getting by and the principal balance is growing exponentially. Luckily, the house is only in my name and I have a second mortgage as well. I am considering the following steps:

1. Find a more affordable home (to rent) and sign a lease
2. Skip my mortagage payments for a couple months to save money (which we are currently unable to do).
3. Leave the home I am in and allow it foreclose
4. Rebuild and improve my credit and build cash reserves over the next 3 years.

My family paid off my credit card bill last year; this year I am able to pay them back and was going to just write them a check. But are there any tax penalties? The amount is more than the maximum gift allowed per year.

My landlord claims to have started the eviction process. We got into an argument cause she keeps opening my mail. She threratened to evict me. So She served me a 3 day notice charging me for 6 months of back rent ( im current with my rent ) and i month future rent. Then she 1 week later her friend serves me with a notice from the court house saying i need to pay 25 dollars a day starting the same day. The court papers were clearly fake, they had clear stickers on them in the spots where case numbers were. My Questions are:
Can she get a judgment like that without a hearing? and is that a crime for forging court documents? advice please

By cost of living I mean:
- Rent. Even if you don't rent, how much would it be if you did?
- Utilities (electric, heating/cooling, water)?
- Groceries and household necessities?

And where do you live?

Does it depend on how much I make an hour? I don't want to work so much overtime that I get taxed more and have a small check anyway. Anything over 40 hours is overtime/time in a half, I also get paid bi-weekly if that makes a difference. I am not in a management position

If you were a recruiter, how would you sell work in the public sector to a student who has the choice between government and private jobs, specifically, work at the Attorney General's office?

If you were a student, what would attract you to public sector work, knowing it pays approximately 2/3 of that of a private sector job?

I'm 26, I slaved myself for 2 companies after college, and I never got anywhere.
Every magazine seems to have articles about how to be on your boss' good side, how to get a long with your co-workers, and how to climb on the corporate ladder.
Every magazine seems to have them, fitness magazines, variety magazines, and even science magazine. I was addicted to these articles trying to get ahead in my company. But after so much frustration, I quit, and started my own business last year.

I'm doing great. I set own my office without kissing up to anyone, I give myself raises everytime I work hard and get good profits, I don't have to care about being on anyone's good side.

The weird thing now is how addicted I was to these "how to get ahead" articles. They are everywhere, I never realized you don't see any advice for people who have small businesses.

What magazine has articles for people with their own small business?

I have a lot of student loan debt, and a little credit card debt, mixed with some personal/medical-I've heard that legal help is best, but I'm only familiar with debt consolidation, which I now understand isn't always best and is actually in for profit more than helping. As a family in crisis, does anyone have any good advise?
