Not all pharmacists work retail. They also deal with crabby nurses in hospital in-patient pharmacies and condescending dr's during patient rounds in ICU.

Well, the pay is around >$40 per hour, but the cons?
Endless. I work in pharmacy as an assistant. You can make the same money in some other way. Don't spend hard-earned tuition money on pharmacy school. It pays well, but even though it is considered a profession, you are still not out reach from the wrath of retail consumers. Remember, we live in the country where "the customer is always right." Being a pharmacist is, by my observation (since I'm not one) one of the most stressful lines of work in the world.
You can spend 6 years in college to become a writer or forensic investigator or something. Customers chew up and spit out pharmacy staff. You know the saying "gone postal?" Well, the saying will soon change to "gone pharmaceutical."

Outside of standing on you feet all day, working nights, weekends and holidays, and taking endless crap from abusive customers, working retail pharmacy is great. Perhaps it is better in the hospital. I forgot to mention that in most chains, all pharmacist make the same. It does not mater if you have 1 year or 20 years with the company everyone makes the same and gets the same raise every year. Obviously there is little incentive to do anything extra.

You're on your feet all day which can hurt a lot. You have to be 100% sure in what you give people is what's been written down on paper by the doctor (they have awful handwriting). You have to be excellent at dealing with people because it can get high stress and the person on the other side of the counter is focused on YOU and may be frustrated, low on money, needs the item to live, and is going to take it out on you.

To add to what the others have mentioned, here is a website for general career info: www.bls.gov/oco and search 'pharmacist' or whatever other career piques one's interest.
