Never forget that you EARN your employees respect, you cant DEMAND IT. Be fair and honest in your dealings with them. Treat them the same way that you would want to be treated by your boss. Trust your employees but VERIFY that they are doing what they should. Be friendly to them but dont become FRIENDS with them. Once you become friends with them, its hard to deal with issues that come up on a boss/employee level.

Remember that your employees are almost always trying to do a good job for you. Find ways to encourage and support them - both in understanding what outcome you want from their performance and in being receptive to their ideas.

Same as dealing with kids ,
Set high standards ,
Train them , train them , train them
And be patient .
Everyone learns at a different pace .
