Not enough to live on. It's a % of your earned income over last 12-18 months, up to a maximum weekly amount for 26 weeks, and a total $ based on your earnings. AND you have to file weekly to get benefits, apply for at least 3 jobs weekly, keeping track of them. Your check is mailed to you. BE SURE to have them take out federal income taxes from your check or you could have BIG problems when you file taxes in April. It's optional, and well worth receiving a dollar or two less per week than having to pony up come Tax Day because of no withholding.

they don't collect money from anyone!!!!! Well not when you file for unemployment. The Government Pays unemployment benefits. YOU pay unemployment insurance and in some jurisdictions, EI in Canada, for every dollar that you pay while you are working each two weeks...the employer has to pay 1.6 times that amount when they do their payroll submissions. When you file for Unemployment, the money paid to you is paid from a POOL that the government has collected from every working individual. Some people NEVER file for benefits whereas others file repeatedly. Don't make any mistake..You will get paid out a lot more than you have paid in, for basically sitting around on the dole, or pogey, or public funds and basically if you need it you need it, but if you abuse it, then you are just a bum. You should know that RARELY would you be entitled to benefiits after quitting a job. If in your last case you were terminated, typically how much you get paid and whether you are even eligible would depend on how long you had been with the company. I believe where I am, unless you had worked for about 5 months minimum, you wouldn't even qualify for benefits.

I didn't get hardly anything when I was on unemployment. I think I got maybe $600 a month? You can't live on that... It varies by state so your state might be really great.
