I have a degree in English (Language and Lit. Minor education) and I've been supplying for six years without a single interview!!! I'm tired of never knowing when/if I'm working or what my paycheck will be...I need a real job...the problem is I live in a super small town and the schoolboard is one of the major employers...I've applied everywhere (except for minimum wage jobs) and I haven't even been interviewed despite a huge amount of professional development courses, six years experience, and great references/letters of rec...so now I"m 30, have a university degree and am looking at applying to jobs at THE MALL!!! I need ideas...or at least some 'virtual hugs' of 'it'll-get-better soon'.

I feel your pain. I moved to Arkansas because I had a bit of a stalker situation in the state I formerly lived in. I have a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities (Women's Studies) and have discovered this is the wrong state to be in to try to find employment in my actual field that pays decently.
Your best bet is to move out of that area. If you live close enough to a big city you may think about becoming a commuter. Of course, it takes money to relocate. I understand completely.

Definitely use any resources that the university you graduated from has to offer.

I've been applying to jobs where I am overqualified as well. In some cases, they don't think you would stay there for any length of time so they don't hire you. They don't realize, however, that you still have to make money somehow and pay your bills.

Good luck on your job search.

Didn't anyone at college mention you might need to relocate to get gainful employment ?
How do people go through college without getting that ?

If you really wanted a good job , you would have moved but you apparently prefer to putz around smallville .
