Past services will be eligible for payments. Lets say that you go into the Medicaid office on March 1 and say 'I need services'. You fill out all the paperwork and get a letter back on April 1 that you are approved. Great you think, but what about all those bills I have for February? Never fear! In the approval letter it states that your coverage is retroactive to January 1. That means any services you have had from January 1 will be eligible for coverage. They will go back and pay claims that you incurred before you had the insurance.
But remember, it is your responsibility to give the insurance information to the doctors office.

I used Medicaid as an example because the will retro coverage back 3 months if you can show you have bills. This is part of the budget issue that they are talking about cutting.

Past due payments especially like for child support that is awarded years after the child is born .
The other birth parent , once determined by the court ,
May be retroactively liable for support from earlier years .

Retroactive means they will go back and pay you that amount from the first day. So you will get paid an additional $138 for every day you were initially paid $50. It is really scarey who they let teach these days.
