The house fire started, where the A.C was plugged in. I had nothing else plugged into this plug in, also the wiring was not updated throughout the house. If anyone has any advice or maybe similar incedents I would greatly like to hear from you. Thank you for looking..

bad wiring has to be proved, updating is not an issue as you would have to update every five years as the codes change, if the fire Marshall stated that it was an electrical fire that is it, unless there was a clear sign of code violation it was just an overloaded circuit that caused the fire. Be happy if the LL doesn't sue you

The AC can be high amperage .
Although nothing else was in that plug ,
There may have been many outlets on that one circuit .
My last rental apartment had 1 ckt for the entire place .
Every plug , including the fridge was on the same circuit and making coffee and vacuuming at the same time caused fuses to blow .

The fire would have resulted if the circuit breaker did not trip ( or old style fuse did not blow ) .

You have more investigation to do .
The fire department should have been able to determine why the fire started instead of the breaker tripping .

You can sue if your landlord was negligent. Meaning they were aware of the bad wiring and failed to repair it or warn you about the danger it posed. Otherwise you should look into getting a renters insurance policy to protect yourself in the future.

I don't understand - why would you sue? Your renters insurance (which you had, right?) would cover the damage to your belongings and your insurance and the owner's insurance would probably duke it out for the damage to the home.
