I'm about to graduate with an English BA, and am planning for my MA. I would love to get into Editing, but also have an interest in areas like psychology and sociology. Working full time and school f/t (for family, no less) has made it hard to do any type of internships that might help with a career in editing, so I'm not sure if it is practical to pursue that type of career with no experience to back up my degree. Since I already know my interests and strengths, I'm looking for help on deciding where to apply them, career wise.

I will be divorced in a month or so & would like to purchase a townhome, but because a quick claim deed was done to get my name on the current home, I don't qualify as a 1st time homebuyer for a mortgage. Is there a waiver or other document available for recently divorced or for special circumstances situations that will make it possible to purchase a home.

Hey guys. I enjoy investing in individual stocks instead of investing in ETF's or Mutual Funds. It's fun for me and I don't like spending money for the expense ratios. My question is..for anyone out there that knows how to build stock portfolios, how many individual stocks are recommended when building a portfolio. Also, does every sector have to be involved? Thanks guys!

I assume that this isn't legal, right? I was supposed to do a couple of jobs for them (after doing about six of them already), but got a full-time job offer with another company and took it.

First, I had no actual contract. They paid me to show up and do a job each time. I gave 24 hours notice since my new job needed me immediately, but under my state's laws I'm not required to give any notice at all.

Now they want to sue, saying that they lost money and that I breached my contract (what contract, I asked?). I'm not the only one that was hired for these events either -- they are always supposed to have backups and other workers at the events in case of mishaps or to assist.

Anyway, I know they can't rightfully sue, but I don't want to get stuck in court either.

The other part of this is that they don't want to pay me for the last two jobs that I did for them, and said that if I pursued it any further they would definitely sue.

Any help is appreciated.

I recently got a call from an employer after an interview offering me a job with "22 -25 hours a week." I asked her on the phone if I could start today, and she said that she would call me back. She never did, so I went into the office and asked her when I was starting. At that point, she told me that she is moving a current employee from a different department to the position that I was hired for and that I might get "some" hourse now but none in the future. What can I do about this??

Is it possible to study theory before taking the leap of quiting a comfortably paying job? I want to break into this field but the apprentice programs are limiting. They also don't pay quite enough to support the family. What other alternatives might I have? Is there any part-time vocational schools to study the vocation and possibly get an 'apprentice' job that pays ok? Even with a private company? Any advice?

We rented a 1800 square foot house for four years. The house had flat white paint. Now that we moved out, they are trying to charge us $2900 in excess of our $750 deposit. $2100 of this is for painting the walls. I consider this normal wear and tear.
About a month before we moved out, someone that worked for the rental company came out to assess some electrical problems we were having and he looked around and said the house looked fine, nothing other than normal wear and tear. What can I do?

I've been an assistant to a mortgage broker for the past two years. I just turned 21 and I find that the real estate industry is very facinating yet very stressful at times. But I find that if I can become an underwriter that this will help me to become a mortgage loan consultant in the future or account executive. Any advise out there would be welcomed. Yes, I'm looking for a new job but I want one that will help me become a mortgage underwriter.

I have a friend that was an assistant to a mortgage broker and managed to get a job at BofA where they trained her to become an underwriter without first having been a jr. processor---what luck. HELLLLP. I don't have many contacts. ;-)
