My friend has been on disability since 2001 and has not filed income tax. He only gets about $14,000 a year. Now the IRS and state are taking over $3000 from him. Is this right?

My 100-year old house in an older, inner-ring suburb with good schools and generally high property values, has been on the market for three weeks now. Traffic has been steady, with agents' appointments averaging about four a week. However, buyers have said while they think the house has a lot of curb appeal, the interior needs too much work: the basement, for starters, is seeping water, and the bedrooms are small with little closet space. Last weekend, we got an offer from a developer: $30K below the asking price, and he wants to tear down the house in order to build a McMansion on the lot. I'm upset and insulted by the offer but am concerned that in a slow market we will not receive anything better. Also, the new property tax rates take effect in two months, and I can't afford them. Should I make a counteroffer or tell the developer to jump in a lake? If I counteroffer, what should I ask for? My realtor, by the way, is pressuring me to accept the offer and has offered no advice.

I am in a production position and am expected to fill out a self evaluation form. Question like Strengths, areas for improvement, disappointments and goals and development plans? There is a very defined progression to the career ladder here and I have never had one of these forms before. What kind of answers are they looking for and/or will serve me best?

My future son-in-law is trying to refinance his home mortgage. The man handling the refinance suggested that he might get a lower interest rate if he included my daughter's income and assets. They are unmarried, living together in Minnesota and expecting their first child in December. There are two parts to this question: Part One - Is this true about the possible lower interest rate and a good idea? and Part Two - Would they have to file taxes together from that point on? I would appreciate any advice and comments.

Recently, I was denied a medical job in Sacramento. When I called for an interview by the doctor's assistant, my location(which is an hour drive) was apparently not an issue. HOWEVER, during the group interview with the actual doctor, my location seemed to be a major issue. I was highly questioned on where I lived and if I was planning on moving, because she thought the drive was too far. And that was basically the end of the interview for me. I feel that it if my location was such a big issue, that I should have never been called for an interview and a lot of time was wasted. Can I go to the better business bureau about this or should I just forget it?

A former realtor faxed me over an amendment to an agreement of sale for my home. The only item that was changed was the price which was changed from $198,000 to $208,000. She failed to amend the original settlement date of Feb 24 06 to a later settlement date. If the original settlement date expires on the amendment that i signed, can i later be sued for failure settle? The realtor is saying that i knew about the later settlement date. She never sent me anything in the mail.and i did not sign anything with a new settlement date on it. Is this amendment valid?
