For certain jobs, asking for DOB is relevant.
For instance, the FAA won't let pilots fly airliners after a certain age. And if you're selling liquor, it's reasonable to determine that your employees are at least 21 years of age.
It's generally illegal to discriminate on the basis of age against people 45 or older, unless there is a legitimate reason sanctioned by law. Consequently, most companies have elected to NOT ask DOB on their applications, so that their managers do not discriminate.
In fact, many companies do not pass out application blanks, any more, and ask for resumes instead, for exactly that reason.
It's pretty easy to figure out how old an applicant is. If he finished high school in 1968, he was probably 18 at that point, so he'd be about 57, give or take a year, now.
In the end, once they hire you, they're going to need to know your DOB for your insurance. If they really don't want someone your age, do you think it's going to be all that hard to make you want to quit? It's better to be open and above-board, so that you end up with a great job, where they value you highly.
So don't worry about it. If they don't ask your date of birth, go ahead and pencil it in anyway.

Asking for age or dob on applications can open the door to age discrimination suits for someone not being hired unless it's a bona fide job requirement, so most companies have removed it from their applications.
Once you are hired though, being asked for your dob is OK.

of course, concepts on your age is taken as a step interior the hiring technique--while citizenship is checked, and while historic past tests, if any, are run. of course, employers DO ask unlawful questions for the time of the utility and hiring technique. they even have interaction in activities which may lead directly to proceedings on the muse of invasion of privateness--including working extensive historic past tests on workers, while the concepts they are compiling has no longer something to do with the interest. while a corporation does those issues, it is not unavoidably legal. they are doing it as a results of fact, to that end a techniques, they are turning out to be away with it. however the preliminary utility shouldn't ask for an applicant's age, different than for the legal question, "are you 18 years of age or older"? An corporation who does no longer discriminate in hiring has no corporation soliciting for further concepts, interior the preliminary ranges of the hiring technique, nor does the corporation have any corporation requiring the dates of your extreme college utility. Many applications in recent times ask on condition which you graduated--from extreme college, college, and previous, and ask you to checklist what style of degree you have. The regulation, as published decrease than, does no longer set those standards out specially. yet as a results of fact the regulation states that employers won't discriminate against workers who're over 40, employers who're attempting to proceed to be interior the regulation have replaced their applications.

Very doubtful. DOB is like your name and address and part of the process of verifying who you are. It is also needed for government reporting, insurance, etc.
It IS illegal to discriminate based on age so if you encounter this, turn them in to the Dept of Labor in your state.

It was always my understanding on the initial application for employment they may not come out and directly ask you for your birth date.
They may ask questions like - "are you 18 years of age or older?" - to find out if you meet their minimun age requirement.
AFTER you are hired then of course you would need to supply that information for tax purposes, tax credits to the company, etc.
