How have you handled it when your boss tried to publicly humiliate you?

Mine has stopped due to fear of a lawsuit, but a number of people who were my friends no longer speak to me because of whatever she said.

The most horrible boss I ever had was a woman of another race. She hated me because of my favor with her boss. He got a promotion and was transferred out of state. Then, I swear, a hundred demons must have entered her; she came after me as tho she wanted to murder me. On a prior job, my boss had advised me to keep a note book, [to protect myself, in case of a law suit]. He said to record daily, all the harassment against me; naming witnesses, time of day and the date all this happened. You probably will have to keep all this a secret. Don't mention it to anyone that you work with. So, that is what I did and believe me it did save me. And it put me in a position that I was able to threaten them with a lawsuit and everyone knew I would win if it came down to that. Because of "My Little Black Book." I sure got the respect then! If you can secretly tape record anything useful just to back up your Little Black Book, that would be helpful also. Don't know if it could be used in court.
I couldn't believe how many people stoped speaking to me out of their fear of her and losing their jobs. After I left there and moved on, I ran into a friend who also had worked there; she told me that the "dragon-lady" was arrested for writing 'hot checks' and stealing form the Casino. Another supervisor who joined in with her, "set up" the top executive chef; got him fired and got his job. I had tried once to get him to stop all the bad things that were going on and he refused to listen. In the end, it cost him his job which was a very well paying position.
