The Average Realtor spends very minimal money marketing a home for sale. Most belong to the MLS in the area and they do pay a monthly fee to belong to the MLS. The Average Realtor spends less than $200 buck marketing the home. Most will just put it in the MLS and put up a sign. The websites Realtor.com or zillow.com are free to post a home for sale. Take in mind this is the average Realtor. A great Realtor will spend up to a couple thousand to market a home, if they commission they are going to earn is going to be substantial. On your home a commission at 3.0% could be up to $14,100 so a if a Realtor spends a couple thousand to sell your home, than the commission earned is well worth the marketing cost.

I have had a $400,000 land property for 2 months and have spent about $450 marketing it so far. It really depends on the cost of your print ads, how long you have it on the market, where your seller wants to see the ads, how many websites you post it on, cost of flyer production and such.

Depending on how much the property is, I have spent as much as $3 to $5,000 (obviously higher end) marketing a home.

I have also paid for repairs and fees to make a deal close if there was a last minute disagreement.
