Does this credit basically give you an extra thousand dollars in your tax return? I paid my ex $600.00 2 years ago in taxes for our son. Now this year he is saying I owe him $1600.00. Can anyone out there please help in this. Also, he makes too much for EIC.

In March we recieved a bill from our gas company ( keyspan) for $355. Our prior bill was for $110, and bills since have been $88, $31 and $26. obviously going down as its gotten warmer. We called to dispute the $355 bill which was 3-4 times higher than any gas bill ive ever had. They sent a tech nician out who subsequently informed us that our gas meter had not been transmitting properly and all but 1 of the bills weve recieved since june '06 were "estimated" and that there would probably be a correction made to that $355 balance due.
now they are telling me that its more than likely that the charges are correct and that they "underestimated" the gas usage in the months were th meter was not transmitting properly. Tough!!! why should i get hit with a huge gas bill cuz their equipment wasnt working. and how do i know how much gas i actually used. this was by far the warmest winter ive ever seen, and im pretty strict with the heat in my house anyway. this is BS, agree?

I just wrote and self-published a book and it is ready for sale. I believe I should either name the website after the title of the book, or my last name. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons regarding either choice, and explain why they would choose one over the other?

Example of choices:

www.calmbeforethestorm.com
or
www.demitri.com

Thanks Much!

I am a 16 year old in Ohio with one mother, one father, and one brother. I have a summer job and I am taxed on my paychecks. People tell me that I can get the money they are taxing me for back. How do I go about this? My Dad says we can not get it back because he files the taxes as a family and not induvidually. There is also something about being a dependent. I would like this money back. How do I get it back?

Here's a career question that I'm facing: suppose you have two job offers in equivalent career fields, Job A offers a high starting salary (let's say 60,000 annual), a set pace of work, but only one promotion opportunity (head of department). Job B has several promotion opportunities, a varied pace of work, but a lower starting salary (40,000). Both jobs offer the same rate of annual raises, but Job B has a higher ceiling (Job A max pay is 95,000 while Job B has a max pay, with possible promotions, to 200,000).

Oh, and Job A has a 5 positions (four filled) and one management position while Job B has two position (one filled), with 5 at the next level, two on the third level, and one at the top. which are constantly in flux.

Which job would you take, steady A or higher future payoff B?

My dilemma:

I am 39 years old, and in a career that pays fairly well ($130,000.00/year +). It is a sales position, which means that I can earn bonuses on top of the salary mentioned above. I came from very meager beginnings, and served four years in the U.S. Air Force after High School. I attended college after that. If someone would have told me that 11 years after graduating from college I would have a job like mine, earning what I now do, I would have taken it – no question about it. Even now, I know how fortunate I am and I wouldn’t just bail out. The job is not a horrible one, just not one I care a lot about.

Money is nice, but I must admit that I would trade the job tomorrow for one that I really love doing. My problem is that I haven’t a clue about what I would “love” to do. Let’s face it; we all have hobbies that we enjoy. Heck, I like to go fishing, but wouldn’t want to do it for a living. I like to cook, but doing that for a living doesn’t sound right.

I’ve taken online aptitude tests, and so forth, but that type of analysis hasn’t yielded anything interesting. Is it just a matter of trial and error? Do I have to quit a great paying job and take a flying leap of faith that one day it will just happen? That is a scary idea!

I thought about Law School (a relative who is a successful attorney has described the typical day in the life to me….no thanks).

In what field can you feel that you are really helping people, making a positive impact, and also making a good living?

I’m all ears!!!

By the way, please don’t tell me how lucky I am to have a good job. I know that I am. This is not really about money, but more about looking back on my life 40 years from now and knowing that I actually did something worthwhile. Earning money is necessary, to be sure. For me, that can only be part of the equation. I need to have goals beyond the almighty dollar.

I hope that some of you will feel what I am saying/asking. Thanks.

My Dad wants to sell his summer home, but his brother and him are both on the deed. Unfortunately his brother died about 10 years ago without a will. There is only one immediate family member left on the deceased brothers side (a son) and we cannot locate him. Should we hire someone to find the lost son so we can give him half of the summerhome?

If a tenant rents month to month and rent is due July 1st but they do not pay the landlord can give a 3 day notice to quit. My question is if the tenant actually moves out within the 3 days do they still owe July's rent? If they move out and there is no damage to the apartment do they get their deposit back? Does giving the 3 day notice cancel out the tenant's obligation to give 30 or 60 days notice? How about if they are in a lease and still have 3 more months on the lease, once the 3 day notice is given do they still owe rent for the 3 months left on the lease even if they move out?

I watched a video in my class and they said it's better to have one credit card only.

But in reality, I know a lot of people have like at least 2 credit cards and they said it's better to have more than one.

So how many credit card should I have?

I have just moved into a new flat and have only been there a few days. It's an upstairs flat and i've discovered a young family living below who like to play music, blast their TV and leave alarm clocks running for 90 mins each morning.

I have signed a 12 month lease and dont like the thought of staying there for the next 12 months. Do i have any legal right to break the contract? Or, is there any kind of cooling off period or 7 days clause or anything similar so i can move out?

My wife and I want to start something from scratch. I currently work and cover our bills. But it is not enough. We both realize that we need to start something, something that can make us at least $1500 a month working from home, or anything.
Any ideas?

Is it common for the interest rate on an auto loan to go up when the balance is close to being paid off?

I am under $2,000.00 and I am paying more in interest now then in the beginning of the loan.

Just wondering if it has to do with the balance remaining. Seems like they are trying to get as much money out of me before I pay it off.

I applied for an assistant manager position at a retail job. I am more than qualified for the position.

When I first picked up an application, the manager didn't put in any effort in introducing herself, etc. That was a week ago. I called to follow up on the application yesterday. The manager took my name and number down and said she'd call back.

I haven't received a call. Should I stop in to check the status of my application?
