I have been working for a restaurant for 3 years and was basically the floor manager. I did the schedule, promo sheets, daily tickets and other things that floor manager does. A new manager was hired a month ago and even though I was told my job was not going to be changed nor did I have to fear losing pay or anything...my job is slowly being taken away from me without any verbal communication. I'm being left notes by the new manager as to whom I am to schedule, and as of today I was left a note that he will now be doing the schedule. I no longer am in charge of the wait staff, which I was, I was left a note as to what stations they would be taking....so basically even though I'm not being told my job is slowly being taken away from me. Is this legal?

I need some advice. I've been a receptionist for two years and am miserable and bored.
I'm starting to teach piano part-time and am finding that I love it! I could be making the same amount of money if I got 20 students that I make at the job I'm currently in.
Problem is, I can only teach after 5:30 pm and most students take lessons after school starting at 2:30.
Should I quit my current job now or wait until I have at least 10 evening students? I currently only have 3. It takes time to build up a good student base.
I am worried about not having healthcare and a steady income for a few months? Is is worth it to stay in this terrible job for those things?
Thanks for your help!

I mostly invest in stocks, but when I was new to the market I bought an closed-end fund (symbol: IIF). Recently I saw this article:
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/070619/20070619006563.html?.v=1

What does this mean for me? I can think of a couple of ways of interpreting it.
- It could mean that the fund had short-term capital gains of $0.10 per share and long-term capital gains of $4.80 a share, which to me means that I will receive $4.90 a share.
- It could also mean that the shares I hold are somehow ear-marked as short-term or long-term

Also, it seems that every time the fund the declares is a distribution (dividend), the price drops 10%... what's going on here... my only guess is that they are selling positions to pay the dividend, thus the net holdings are less, affecting what people are willing to pay for it.

I have searched the Internet for a while looking for some insight into this, but I always get the basic "What percentage are long-term, short-term capital gains taxed at"?

I have been working with an real estate agent for a couple of weeks. She is not as good as I hoped, but OK. The problem is that I can see her effort to push me to sign a contract. She gives much more positives than negatives on almost all properties. While the home market is not clear, she always insists that the local market will definitely boom, which I don't agree on.

I thought about switching to another realtor, but would feel guilty to do so as she has already invested at least 10 hours on my search. I know in this state, most realtors require the buyer sign the agreement at the beginning, but still some won't do that until they are ready to help the buyer make an offer. I am leaning to sign the offer with her. But ..., if she is getting worse, do I have options to switch agents beforel the agreement expire in 6 months? The agreement is not clear on that at all.

I recently quit a management job without notice to the employer. The work environment was too stressful and I had no time with my family, and I was tired of working from 4pm until 5am.

I don't like to bash an employer in an interview, because it reflects negatively on the applicant.

So, how would you recommend that I fill in an application on the reason for leaving. Also, if I'm asked why I left, how can I tactfully and honestly answer that question?

Any suggestions?

My boyfriend and I have been renting a house since the first of April. The house had some work that needed to be done on it. It needed to have the guttering put back on after they had to take it off after fixing a part of the roof last summer, there are 3 windows with small holes in them, and there's some water damage in one of the rooms. Our landlord assured us the problems would've been taken care of immediately, but it's now 3 months later, and he refuses to return our calls or anything. We signed a contract for a year, and I know the landlord could charge us for the remaining months, which would be several thousand dollars, but don't we have reason to break the contract? We're looking at buying a house, but i don't want to owe him any money. The house isn't in good condition, and it's not due to anything we've done to it, but we're paying for all utilities, and there are holes in the windows!!

I just got an offer for some acreage I've been holding for several years. Probably will accept the offer, but I want to make sure I'm getting enough $$$$ per acre. I *do* know the housing and real estate boom is on its way down, as the market in this area is flooded with houses.

I ask this because I want to contribute to a Roth IRA account until I retire. I will make $95k in a couple of years if I stay with my current employer and was curious if contributing a pre-tax amount (to a 457b account available through my employer) to make my federal gross income $90k (for example) will be good enough to continue to contribute to a Roth IRA. Between the 457b plan, the Roth IRA and my pension (yeah I'm a government employee), I'd like to retire when I'm 59.5 or 60, so I am not interested in a traditional IRA. If possible, please back up your answer with sources. Thank you kindly.

This month, July, I paid the rent on the 2nd partly because the 1st was a Sunday. I received a note from the owner on Monday morning telling me to pay a late fee charge of $30.00
He has given me a notice to pay the late fee in three days or he will start the eviction process. I checked with my bank and he has already deposited the rental check. Is he entitled to the late fee in California and could he evict me for not paying the late fee?

Would my credit be effected if I don't pay the late fee or I am evicted?
