A well-led and organized meeting shares or collects information for a purpose.
A disorganized and badly led meeting is a waste of everyone's time and energy, very few get anything out of it.
No such thing as "ANY" meetings. There are really only 2 kinds, the ones that work (and people actually participate and try to contribute something useful) or ones that don't work, where there are those who think they're there to fill the chairs and drink coffee and chat.

Our shipyard has monday meeting to discuss manpower needs how many of each craft are needed on each job. If we need to get more or lay some off or can arrange to do all the work with the labor we have. Without the meetings one person would be hiring while another was laying off or letting people go at noon because their was no work. We would rather have one person all day than two for half a day.
They also discuss who needs their ships drydocked on which days and try to put small ships in the same dock at the same time.
Our meetings don't last long and don't have dough nuts or get off topic.

Coffee, muffins, complain, complain, talk politics, get sleepy. Refill coffee, totally talk over people, complain, nag, nag. Oh its only 10am, plunder up something to get everyone distracted for another hour. Small talk and make closing the meeting last another 30 minutes. Okay its 20 till lunch.
Great meeting everyone. Thanks for coming!

To give the impression of being organized and making progress. Beyond that, it's some people's chance to force others to listen to them.
