Yes they can and they will if you can make the payment contact the comapny your self but be ready to make the payments any information you give them will help them to resolve the debt. Offer a low monthly payment because they will usally doubel it. Last year I simply contacted the mso that I could start making payments to bring my loan out of default when I got a divorce in the winter I missed a payment and they sent a notice aying that if I did'nt make my payment they would garnish my check.

Not if you do it quickly before they have a court order. Call the company immediately to see if you can pay and hold off on the garnishment.

as long as arrears are paid in full and up to date they can't do nothing.
