My friend told me it is about 18.5% for married. But I saw withholding tax is not more than 10% in most web pages. Can somebody explain me why? Are there other taxes?

Thanks.

I just read this quote from the World Health Organization (WHO): "Tobacco is a defective product. It kills half of its customers."

Suppose you are a Senior Vice President at a major tobacco manufacturer. You earn a seven-figure salary, your stock options are worth $20 million, and your family has everything it could want.

Would WHO reports like this bother you? Specifically, would knowing the effect your company's product had on your customers bother you or not? Please explain.

This is a semi two part question. I am selling domains and websites, so I assume that it would just be assets since there is no inventory of any kind. I am looking to take the "profits" or gains from the sale of these websites and create a secondary company to reinvest the business funds into real property. Specifically purchase two homes here in Southern California. Is this a way to avoid paying on the capital gains? I'm a sole proprietor and taking a 30% hit could mean hundreds of thousands of dollars. The second part of that question is I will be essentially buying my own home and putting it under the company as well. All in all I am looking for the best ways to reinvest the funds to pay as little as possible, with my primary goal paying off both of these homes.

Any thoughts? Also after reading through many other questions the assets are over two years old, if that matters in business transactions.

I recently moved out of state from Denver to Seattle. After a month of move out, previous apartment guys have sent us a notice to pay $1250 for damages. When we left the apartment, we cleaned it up except couple of stains on the carpet and few pin holes. We stayed in the apartment for 2 years. Now we are being charged for carpet replacement ($550) which was already old when we moved in and many misc. charges like floor replacement etc. When we were there, they started changing floors for all newly vacated apartments but why we are being charged for their plan of work. Should the normal wear-&-tear happen when you live for 2 years? There are numerous complain about the apartment in the past (checked apartmentratings.com) about move-out fines. We are going crazy, didn't face this situation in the past (in last 4 apartments we lived, in fact we got the deposit back). How should we handle this situation? Should we talk to lawyers or consumer forums. Any help or idea would be appreciated.

what can you do if you get a big phone bill that you cant afford to pay because your on limited income and
when you try to phone up to cancel the service, because you feel they miss sold you the service, claiming it was going to work out cheaper for me, to sign up for it, they tell you that you cant because you signed up for an 18 month contract with them so im bounded to it...?
i rang up yesterday and told them that their phone service is costing me a bomb and that i would like to cancel it and come to some arrangement on how to pay the bill, thats when the customer service operater said i couldnt because im bounded to the contract for 18months, i grew enraged and let rip to the guy down the phone, but he continued to say, in a forcefull manner, repeatedly, that i was bounded to their contract and i couldnt cancel the service......thats when i grew angrier and really blasted the guy down the phone telling him' its a dear service and i couldnt afford it damn it!!!!!!!!!''...
he then hung up the phone on me....has anyone been in a position like this and no what to do?

Hi I have a question related to self-employed tax. I started earning income for my services in mid-June (paid in July) of this year. At year-end, can I deduct expenses related to my business even though it was incurred prior to my earnings in June? For instance, can I deduct business expenses incurred in April?

I have a car loan through Chase Bank. If I pay with a check and mail it in, there is no extra charge. However, if I pay by debit card online, they charge me $10 extra. It seems to me that it would cost Chase bank less money and time to process an electronic payment then it would be to process paper. Is it just me or is Chase Bank just charging me for the convience, even though it's a convience for them also?

Mine: I deserve a raise at work because I am making a huge difference in productivity within my dept. I always accomplish over and above that which I am asked or required to do. I inspire my co-workers to do the same also. My leadership skills are obvious, yet not fairly acknowledged. I've paid my dues and proved I am very valuable to my company.
