Look at your property tax records or measure the spaces and add them together. Don't measure the basement or garage.

Home square footage is calculated with the outside dimensions of the home (not including the garage if you have an attached garage). Few homes are square or rectangular, so the process involves adding up various segments to get the total. (A piece of paper with 1/4" grids helps. Just draw the dimensions of your house to scale...1/4 in equals 1 foot.... and then count the squares.)

The property tax records contain the "official" sq footage. Additions or modifications, if not permitted, will not be included. Zillow.com may have your house listed. If so, the sq footage will be on the listing.

Measure the length and width and multiply the two numbers together. If you have an attached garage, do the same with that space and subtract it from the total or do each area separately then add them together.
ie) 75 x 30 = 2250 total space - (15 x 15 = 225 garage) = 2025 square ft

Look on your property card, many counties have them online.
Search, name of County and auditor.
Otherwise measure the length x width.
