I know someone who has said they made more than they did to get a bigger EIC tax refund. This person has an otherwise spotless criminal record, and is a single mom of two kids. She wants to come clean about it, but is afraid of the consequences. She did it to help her family, not just for personal gain.

Stupid question, I suppose, but I don't know that much about the tax law.

If someone works as an I.C., filing out a W-9, and received a 1099, does one pay into the SS system on his income taxes?

Is it required, or is it optional?

What if we got charged like a cent for every email we sent, I wonder how much money would accumulate, I think either we could use all the money for a global health care program or to eliminate world hunger OR it would stop companies from sending spam, what do you think?

My boyfriend and I just bought a house (110K lien), and his parents will be moving in with us, in a garage-converted apartment. Parents are selling thier house for $80k to my boyfriend's older sister. Since they are close to 80 and have no other assests, we are trying to invest legally but avoid capital gains. Should that 80k be paid on our house and add the parents to the title, or should the deed to the original house be passed as a "gift" to the sister and sister pay mom & pop under the table? Or should the 80k be split between all 7 of mom & pop's children as an inheritance (even though both are alive, they do not have a will). Let me know what options exist.

closing costs. This is both of our first time buying a house so I'm just a little confused. What is the closing cost for? How can I get money to pay that? How much does it usually cost? Sorry if I sound ignorant, but I need some help.

We asked for a 6 month lease- They told us flatout that they did not offer anything but 12 month leases. While living there, we found out that more then a few residents had 6 month leases(some who had moved in before us and some after)We believe we were not offered that because we were young, not married and expecting our first child(these are private land lords who's main work is preaching)We knew we were being discriminated against.
We had to break our lease at 6 months(boyfriend got a job in a different city 2 hours away)They let us out of the lease and initially told us we could have our deposit back. They had our apartment rented out already and told us to be out 5 days before the date we told them we would. So we left and kept trying to contact them about getting the deposit back. Two months passed and they never cashed the check from the last months rent, but I had to close my account- there were none of those banks here.So we assumed the deposit was covering the last months rent

my situation is a little different than most of the q's ive already read here,

i was working with my company for a year and they closed my location here. i was told transferring would be an option, if not i'd be eligible for unemployment. well i tried contacting my district manager for nearly 3 months leading up to my store closing to find out about transferring, and i didn't hear back until a week before we closed. i was given the option to work in a store 50 minutes from here. i agreed to it, because i felt backed into a corner and was running out of time. regardless, i did accept the position. the original plan i was offered by the store manager was to work 3 12 hour days to cut back on travel time and gas money. the district manager said no. so 4 days was the compromise. i started working in the store and was scheduled 5-7 days a week for the next three months (i only worked there for one, but the schedule was made). it was costing me around $20 a day in gas

I want to take out a $10,000 loan and I want to see if the credit card deal is better for overall savings. It's a lower rate than the home equity loan, but will the higher APR of the Home Equity loan paired with the tax breaks be better than a lower credit card(i.e. non-deductible interest) loan?

I have a 9 month contract with a real estate broker - is there a way that I can get out of that contract and still be able to sell my house this year? The way that the r/e agent explained the contract was that I must honor it for 9 months + I think 3 or 6 more months after that (in case someone who came to her open house chooses to purchase the home at a later time)

I've posted a simular question here before and received mixed and vague answers. I live in North Central, Pennsylvania and want to move to an economic hotspot in the South to better my family's life. I wanted to raise my children in my hometown, but financial hardships have made my decision to move a necessity. One reason I want to move further south is to avoid winter heating costs. I lived outside of Camp Lejeune, NC when I was stationed there. I liked the area but have no desire to move my family to a military town. I need help to find a location so I can research job and home opportunities online. I'm a blue-collar worker and would like you to consider this when posting answers, as I do not want to live as an outsider in someones posh neighborhood. I would also like to see answers about rural area with commutes to towns/cities with bustling growth. Please answer with truthfulness and sincerity, My Family's life depends on it.
